Going to the theatre Over Christmas

I have bought tickets to take my 9 - nearly 10 year old to see a production that is for 12+. I know there is mild swearing but nothing he hasn't seen or heard on 12 + movies. May I ask has anyone's child been ID'd at a theatre and been asked to leave. We aren't going to be taking any ID for him, he isn't noisy and won't be asking questions or annoying other guests. He loves the show but I really need to know if the rule is an advisory guide or strictly enforced.

When I worked at a theatre we had 12+ show on. We would stop obviously small children but its so hard to tell a 10 year old froma 12 year old and of course they don't have ID. You can call and ask to be sure.

Honestly, it was to protect the theatre. We all thought as long as the children understand and obey theatre etiquette (and most did better than the adults) it should be up to the parents what they were exposed to. However, it would shock you what people complained about being unsuitable so the age limit meant we were empowered to turn it back around and go, we were clear, that's on you.

I took my almost 12 yo DD to a production with an age guidance of 13+ and there were wall to wall prosthetic cocks, bumming and a 'fruity' orgy. It was quite uncomfortable and I spoke to the theatre who said they were guided by the touring company.
A couple of weeks later, I took same dd to an opera of Death in Venice, remembering the beautiful writing I'd read as a young adult. Unfortunately I'd forgotten the central character is essentially a massive paedophile.
Quite the learning journey that summer!
