A few hours off

Today I got my hair done and for nearly 3 hours or so, I didn't hear any whining or crying. I didn't do any washing, or folding or cooking or running or anything. I just relaxed and I feel a thousand times better. When I got home I was better able to deal with the children and the house......Which leads me to ask why do we as parents neglect ourselves? We parent much better when we take breaks so why don't we take them?????

I don't know, but glad you enjoyed your day. Make a point of doing it more often!

I guess we don't take the breaks we should due to guilt.
I'm still on maternity leave so am in effect a SAHM at the moment, and DP works full time. When anyone offered to mind DS, whether it was for an hour or a full afternoon, I'd feel guilty about spending this spare time on myself. Instead I'd do the mountain of ironing that had built up, or some other dreary chore. Silly really, as I started feeling more and more down as I was having very little me-time.
Now when a family member offers to mind DS I go to the gym, or go to town and look round the shops, surf the net, or just sit with a cuppa & a trashy magazine.
Sod the ironing!

One of my cousins has DS for 2 hours one day each week. I always mark that day on the kitchen calendar, and look forward to it all week

We all need a bit of "me" time now and again, if only to remind ourselves that we are also women as well as mothers.

My "me" time is when I go to the gym before work, after seeing DS's onto the school bus. I have a workout and feel ready to tackle the day!
