My ds is 2 this month. I am expecting#2 and decided this summer would give it a whirl at potty training but everyone keeps telling me 2 is very young for a boy to potty train. I then decided porobably worked in my favour him in nappys with a newborn as could guarantee id sit down to feed and id get 'mummy wipe my bum'/.

Anyway getting bath ready and he decided to sit on his potty (been in bathroom for about 1 year!) so i said ok (done this before) he sat there for a while and kept saying wee wee and nothing so got him off it then he wanted to sit on toilet and he did nothing then sat on potty and did a wee! I was very encouraging 'amazing' etc but what do i do now? Wait for him to do it again or push it or what? I honestly didnt think he was ready as he never tells me when he's wet or done a poo infact he'd sit in poo all day and not be bothered!

Also this am his nappy had leaked and when he got up the first thing he said to me was wet (his pjs were wet too) which he doesnt normally do.

What do i do for the best?

go with it, see if he wants to do it again if not it doesn't matter if so, then yay

Go with the flow - loads of nappy off time with the potty handy, and loads of praise if he chooses to use the potty.

My DS has started in pants last Friday, and has had 3 accidents since then. He's 2 and 2 weeks.

we were talking about his potty this am and he sat on it but no wee. He hastn asked for it and hasnt told me he;s doing a wee. I dont want to go on about it to him incase it was a fluke (that he just happened to do wee whilst on potty) its nice to hear a boy 2 yr old being trained esp when everyone i know tells me its to early

I would leave his trousers and pants off in the house, leave the potty handy. See how he goes!

My boy in pants at 19 mths, I wonder if boys aren't as vocal in saying they're weeing and pooing, but still perhaps have awareness. I can't understand why they couldn't feel a wee or a poo coming out just as well as a girl!

my ds was also in pants at 19 months, he's just 2 now and still can't/won't say potty but can sign it, we always had potty handy and would put him on first thing in morning, before meals, after meals, about 40 mins after drinks etc so it became part of his routine then at 19 months he decided no more nappies, just when number 2 arrived! not ideal timing at all!
the baby whisperer has some good advice in it about training 'early' so might be worth nipping into waterstones and readding that chapter
