I am using kushies all in one reusables and finding them incredibly leaky! I'm fed up of a complete outfit change every three hours for my 3 month old!! Is it me...? AM I washing them incorrectly, they don't seem to absorb any poo at all, not so bad with wee! Any tips would be very welcome!!!

I use wambamboo on my 13 week old, with half a piece of these liners folded in half. some gets thru but not enough to go right thru the nappy iyswim

If they are leaking poo and baby is only 3mo, then then might be a bit big?

I never used kushies btw, I never heard anyone rave about them and all in ones mean you are hot washing the wrap part every time too, so they become ineffective - did you buy them new or 2nd hand?

OR if they are brand new, nappies need washing a few times to make them more absorbent.

No fabric softener as that reduces absorbency.

Try using a muslin as a thin nappy, fastened with a nippa, then the kushies on top until he grows enough for his legs to fill the leg openings if they are a bit big.

Thanks I'll try folding the liners, see if that helps

oh leaky at the leg holes! sorry i thought you leant leaking thru the nappy. I had to google a min ago to see what kushies were

newmumone · 05/06/2008 17:32

That's a good idea, I might try the muslins too. I have been using them for a couple of months so it's not that they are new.
I have just got mu voucher from the council through so I think I'll supplement with some motherease, I've read lots of good things about them.

Try your kushies again in a few months time. They were fab for my DD at 5 months plus but too big beforehand - hence the leaks. Mine were 2nd hand but worked well. I'm going to use them with DS when he is older - nice to only have one bit too attatch to a baby who has just discovered crawling

btw - I found MEOS awful - if I were you I'd be cautious and just get one or two before splashing out on too many!

I have never found kushies to be particularly good (sorry, don't want to sound negative). I think that the problem with these all in ones is that the wee wicks to the edge and there is nothing to stop the edge of the 'fabric' part of the nappy having contact with the babys clothes. Whereas if you use a nappy with separate wrap then the wrap is a definite barrier.

I suppose if your baby is still just in milk then the poo is probably quite runny. I can see how this would cause leaking with the kushie. I have found that if my childrens nappies didn't quite manage to contain a runny poo, then the wrap would always catch what escaped! This could be less of a problem I suppose when your baby is on solids, but could still happen then.

I would say that a 2 part system is definitely better for containment. Maybe you could just try a few different types and see which you prefer. Do you have a friend who uses cloth nappies - maybe you could try a couple? Or try a local nappy advisor? When my 1st DC was born I borrowed a trial kit from the agent in my area and tried out lots of different types which was really useful.

When you say motherease do you mean the all in ones or the one size? I would say that you could have a similar problem with the all in one as you are having now (though I think that their one size is much better containment wise than the kushies). I have some onelife which are v similar to their onesize. I really like these and they have fitted mine from the under 7lb weight through to potty training. YOu can then use any type of wrap you like with these.
