I'm a first time parent and I'm struggling with finding a routine for my little one who's nearly 6 months. We've started him on solids however, how are we meant to fit nap times, milk feeds plus one meal a day into the day! I'm struggling to figure of set times for him, as he eats every 3 hours, please help, thank you!

I'm guessing he's only eating one 'meal' a day as he's not even 6 months yet - is he definitely ready to start solids? Able to sit up unaided, bringing hand to mouth etc?

I think at this age I did...

7am bottle
10am bottle then nap
1pm food
3pm bottle then nap
7pm bottle then bed

Could you offer the solids when you eat your breakfast?

At 6 months he'll just he having a few spoonfuls so not a full meal yet. We originally started with veggie purees in the afternoon around 4 or 5pm, always about an hour or 90 mins after a milk feed so he wasn't starving but wasn't full.

In a month or so when he's ready for a full meal change it to either a late breakfast about an hour before his first nap or else lunch when he wakes up from the 1st nap. He'll likely drop a bottle or drop ounces in the bottle after the meal. He should start spacing out milk feeds to maybe every 4 hours instead of 3 when he starts to eat more solids.

Yeah starting solids is a lot of work. Not just fitting in the meal time, but the cooking and the cleaning too.

Early lunch time worked best for us, I'd meal prep during morning nap and feed him about an hour after his morning nap and milk feed. I didn't want to give food in the evening in case it gave him a stomach ache. Especially things like eggs and other allergens, you want to be able to observe them for a good amount of time. Turned out mine had a dairy AND egg allergy.
