Shows to watch with a newborn

About to give birth to dc2 any day. I have low expectations given dc1 I couldn’t put down for 7 months 😅

the big Q- I would like some tv series / shows to watch to keep me awake during the night feeds plus the many many nap traps I expect to have in the day. Any suggestions?!! 😀 I also have a soft spot for trash, or documentaries.

DC1 will be at nursery in the week so I hope to still be able to enjoy being nap trapped. Non essential house work will be on hold. 😂

I started Game of Thrones on mat leave it was great!

BananasFoster · 11/10/2025 21:32

I watched all of Buffy when DD was tiny, which is funny as she loves it now.

It’s an oldie - so am I - but in similar circumstances with tiny son I watched all of the Gilmore Girls.

I have fond memories of watching Game of Thrones when my son was a newborn. Funnily enough, he's fast asleep on my lap right now. Age 8½

I watched buffy, gilmore girls, gossip girl, the last kingdom, selling sunset.

Between two mat leaves, I rewatched all of ER and The West Wing. Then watched Chicago Fire, Chicago Med and something i found on Now TV called Elsbeth, which was quite fun. There are so many seasons between them that it kept me going through many many contact naps. DD2 in particular used to feed for over an hour at a time, which fit quite nicely with an episode or two of something 😅

Oh just remembered I also watched Scandal as well which is absolutely ridiculous by the end and fit quite nicely with the delirious nighttimes.

First mat leave I rewatched all of Gilmore girls and The Last Kingdom. This time I watched Downton Abbey, Parenthood, and a really lovely find on Netflix called Firefly lane. Also got through most of the US version of Ghosts, which is surprisingly good.

OtterMummy2024 · 11/10/2025 22:09

I watched all of New Amsterdam, the Knick, Insatiable (SO trashy), You, Bridgerton... I cycled through Netflix , Now TV & Disney.

So did I!

Grey's Anatomy! There are practically endless episodes to get you through the naps and nights.

If you like garbage reality, there are a lot of seasons of Married at First Sight 😂

elliejjtiny · 11/10/2025 22:12

I have fond memories of watching downton abbey while feeding dc4 in the night. My then 7 year old came down early one morning, sighed and said "oh no, not the posh people again mummy"

NormaNormalPants · 11/10/2025 22:14

I rewatched Nip/Tuck during my first mat leave and thought it hadn’t aged as badly as I’d feared. This is us is also a good one.

Janeykat · 11/10/2025 22:15

I watched the letdown with my first child, and One day with my second....really recommend both of those shows!

This is us. But you will regularly ball your eyes out but it’s incredible!

Worried8263839 · 12/10/2025 18:13

Oh and the good place

Slow horses is great.

BayOfBucket · 12/10/2025 18:23

We watched Detectorists and This Country. DH watched Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased) on his shifts. I watched the BBC series Hospital. We revisited old favourites like Suits and The Good Life and The Sopranos.

happy times!

NC3276 · 12/10/2025 18:23

Trying on BBC and Apple TV (had it first and has more series)

PennyRest · 14/10/2025 02:36

I wish I’d been sensible enough to find a series to watch instead of random TV shows. I did start to get quite attached to Kirstie and Phil at one point but made myself move on to Escape to the Country when I found myself, in June, watching the one Kirstie did about Christmas.
If I were doing it again today I think I’d start with rewatching Downtown Abbey and then commit to the full costume drama experience and go on to Bridgerton.

helloworld88 · 14/10/2025 02:47

Another vote for Downton Abbey! I was not a fan of period dramas before this but it got me! I’ve such fond memories even though it was only last year

Jambags · 29/10/2025 00:21

We are on our second game of thrones binge now.
Also gave been enjoying police interceptors and the crown.
A real varied mix. 😂

choccychipcookies1988 · 29/10/2025 00:32
