Yoto to sleep

I'm probably massively overthinking this but... DD (aged 4) has a yoto in her room and has started turning it on after I've switched her light off to help her get to sleep, I've also noticed her turning it on over night if I've got up to see to baby DS and heard it on (but she's been asleep when I've checked on her). I've previously tried to avoid this (and other sleep associations) so that she doesn't rely on it to sleep, but is this really a battle worth fighting?

No. My 9 year old who has issues sleeping listens to hers to go to sleep. It’s not a big deal.

If it’s the sleep sounds it’s easy to wean them off it by just dropping the volume by one each day, so I wouldn’t worry about the sleep association. I don’t let my kids play stories after bedtime though, as it stops them being sleepy.

I’m 43 and have to listen to an audiobook book to sleep as background noise just helps. If she sleeps I wouldn’t be worried about it.

I understand your concern, and I thought the same with DD. But it's so useful to have something you can leave them with to go to sleep. It also gives her a bit of control over sleep - if she's not so tired she can listen for a bit or (more usual tbh) just conk out.

I aways used to have a tape to go to sleep to - I have quite a busy brain and it helped me to not have to listen to my own racing thoughts. As an adult I don't really need anything to get to sleep - although I've recently started going up a bit early to listen to an audio book and do some sudoku.

If it's working for you all then I wouldn't worry about it!

Thanks all, she never had any problem getting to sleep without it before but I think I'll leave it for now - there's been a lot of change recently with her starting school, and her baby brother has just moved into his own room which is next to hers so may be disturbing her overnight. @EvolutionarygoalsI do wonder if her brain is getting busier and that might mean her need for it now.

To be fair, that’s why we bought a Yoto for DD1.

Listening to an audiobook is how I fall asleep too.
