And am now cacking myself wondering what I have done! I know I will like it if I get on, but its a full time taught course with a 15000 word dissertation as well and I just worry I'm not up to it.

Its in theology, so there's not many other people here who know about it, but it would be nice to hear from others who have done a FT Masters for a bit of reassurance!

Good for you! I did my FT Masters straight after uni so didn't have to fit it in with kids but was still the most worthwhile thing I did educationally and gave my career a real direction.

Do you have other theology or related qualifications? I was thinking mine, which was an MSc in marketing, would be ridiculously hard and really quite dull (arts background previously), but I really enjoyed it, far more than degree actually. My dissertation was 40k words so know how you feel. Sounds silly, but if you pick a subject you actually enjoy and are interested in, it's not that hard to fill the space!!! How long before you find out if you've got in? Will you have to go for an interview?

Good stuff Weegie, it's exciting isn't it? I started a Masters in English last year (part time though). I've found it quite hard to bridge the ten year gap between BA and now, in the sense that when you're on the school-uni treadmill you are trained to churn out the work and think in suitable essay-writing terms, whereas after ten years of working in crappy office jobs it has been a bit of a struggle getting back into the academic mode of thinking...BUT on the other hand it's so rewarding using my brain again and luxuriating in discussing abstract concepts for their own sake. I'm proud of myself for taking it on even though it scares the shit out of me!

Good luck

I have a first degree in Geography (years and years ago) and am about to graduate with BA in Theology. It's at the same place I am currently studying as its the only place that offers the sort of thing I am looking for. I also like it there!

Don't know when I will here. The tutor in charge has already said that there should be no problem with my application as I have been scoring high in all my assessments, but you just don't really know, do you?

Luckily dd2 (youngest) starts school in Aug, so by the time the course begins in Oct they will all be in school all day. I have applied for after school club on the 2 days that I have seminars.

If I don't get in I will go back and do the honours year (being Scotland, 3 yrs gets you an ordinary degree, you have to do a 4th for honours) - but they said I shouldnt have to as I already have an honours, though in a different discipline.

I'm busy complaining about my final essays to get in on my way to getting my degree which is the first step towards applying for my masters! Well done you!

Good luck Weegie. I did a FT MPhil 6 years ago but dd came later - during my PhD which I hope to finish this year. Sounds like you will enjoy it.

Weegiemum · 05/06/2008 18:51

Yes I will! Its in Biblical Interpretation - so loads on exegesis, hermeneutical principles, using the Bible in Pastoral Care, engaging with comtemporary issues, and my personal favourite, cross cultural contextual theology!

Most people think I am nuts. I can't wait!

Can you read the original texts?

QuintessentialShadows · 05/06/2008 19:19

Good on you!

I did a master yonks ago.
My dissertation topic was on the problem of an omnipotent God, free will and fate. Philosophy rather than Theology, though, but did I have fun? Oh yes. I did not have kids at the time so could immerse myself fully.

Weegiemum · 05/06/2008 22:44

I don't have Greek or Hebrew, I'm more interested in application. I can use a lexicon and look stuff up if I had to, but I reckon it would take me years to get fluent in anything like that.

Its especially stuff about cross cultural application I like. E.g., in English we often use the word 'righteousness' where in Spanish the word is almost always translated 'justice'. Therefore there is a totally different take on passages like psalm 23, for example. I find all that fascinating! It means a very different way of looking at theology - I reckon this kind of thing has made the rise of Liberation Theology more likely for example. Writing an essay on Gustavo Gutierrez at the moment - great stuff!
