on average when are children dry at night?

ds1 is just 2 been in pants and dry during naps (1-2hrs) for 4 months, this was unexpected it happened because when ds2 was 6 wks old he decided no more nappies and I was so tired I couldn't be arsed to argue and just let him run around with bum out in house and he used potty

now he's decided he hates his cloth (tots-bots) night nappies - he can't talk much but told me not to put nappy on ds2 yesterday as 'cold, wet' he isn't sleeping well at night and is waking up at 5am calling for me having taken his pj bottoms off (nappy still on!) and signing potty, he is in cot bed with sides on,

I think he's too young to go 12 hours without a nappy especially has he still likes to drink about half pint of milk (7oz ish) before his bath, I don't put nappy on till last possible moment and he does do wee on potty before I do but he is always wet in morning.

so ideas please as I resorted to pull ups last night and would like to use cloth or get him out of nappies, I don't actually want to make him too comfortable in disposables and like the fact he has the sensation of being wet otherwise how will he learn? but I don't want to upset him at nighttime if his bladder isnb't ready to go through as it obviously upsets him

Sounds like he is waking up when he needs the loo at 5am? In which case he may well be ready.

My dd2 was dry at night at age 2, exactly the same time she potty trained during the day. We weren't expecting it in the least, as big sister then aged 4 1/2 was still in nappies at night. But after two weeks of dry nappies every morning, we bit the bullet.

My other daughter finally caught up a month or so later, just before her 5th birthday.

So averages don't really help you ... if he's ready, he's ready, he will do it.

I'd try it. Just remember that you will have some wet beds. I 'lifted' DS for a couple of months as I was going to bed.

Ds1 is 3.7 and not dry at night.

thanks guys, with pull ups he's sleeping happily till 7 again, I was thinking of keeping pull ups on and lifting him some time in evening, sniffy - what time did you do this?
he has a full nappy in the morning, I was kind of expecting him to magically have dry nappies and then I'd know he was ok to go through.... lifting might be the answer - an hints?

round about 4 is usual, it's a hormonal issue rather than a physical one - DS2 (4.5) has just come out of pullups at night after a fortnight of dry nights

depends completely on the child. DS was 2.5yrs when he was dry at night and dd1 was the week after she turned 2 and has only ever wet the bed once in the 6mths since she was like you describe your ds hated the nappy being on and was restless of a night so we just tried without and that was that.
