Would you say anything to the teacher?

ds9 is usually pretty chill, has always had lots of friends at his school.
Sometimes he can turn into a little devil when his blood sugars go high (type one diabetic) which is his fault & also isn’t his fault it can make him lash out as he’s frustrated with his diabetes. (He does see a pyscoholgist for this before anyone asks why I haven’t done anything!)

He went on fortnite tonight to play his friends as usual, and one of the boys from school has randomly deleted him & keeps kicking him out of parties with his friends.
Qeue ds very upset as he says this boy has been excluding him for a while & making others in his class do so as well. They completely ignore him & don’t speak to him at all even when he has apologised to the boy mutiple times.
He then told me its been going on for a few weeks, as ds was blamed by the boy & teacher for apparently pushing the boys chair backwards in class when DS swears he didn’t touch the chair. (Again, my child is no angel when his BS are out of whack I hold my hands up.)
This boy is a bit funny with kids in general.

Would you ask the teacher to have a word with both boys since its now effecting them outside of school and stopping ds play with his other friends online? Or am I being a pita & DS should wait for this eventually to blow over as a lesson?

9 is old enough that they don't all have to be friends

There's a fine line between not being friends and bullying but maybe your DS should be told that he has to find his own friends away from this boy and understand that you can lose friends through poor behaviour

It's a hard lesson to learn

I think if it's affecting things outside of school then it needs to be dealt with outside of school, and not via the teacher. It sounds like you need to have a conversation with your son about the fact that friendships can change and end, and that it might be time to think about widening his friendship group.

Ds cant find friends away from this boy, they are all in the same class & its a very small class in a very small primary school. He has just started boxing classes, but hes only just started.

The teacher should deal with behaviour at school not out of it

I wasnt going to tell her the bit about fortnite 😂 I was just explaining the situation. Even though my son has lots of other friends at school its still upsetting him.

I think speak to teacher - it's possibly edging into bullying with the persistence of it and it's useful pastorally to know what's going on with friendships, teachers want to know about that kind of thing for class dynamics and keeping an eye on (I'm a teacher). I wouldn't necessarily ask for teacher to have a word - discuss with them what the action might be.

Thank you! It’s very persistant behaviour, the kids who the boy makes stop talking to ds happily talk to him when he’s not about. 🙄 Worse thing is they sit on the same table so it’s not very nice for ds to be completely ignored. I will have a word with them tomorrow, If anything hopefully she just move his seat in class.

If there are issues at school then yes you should speak to the teacher and get her take on it and agree a way forward.

But the Fortnite stuff and anything out of school you have to deal with, either by your son not playing with this boy and releasing not everyone will be his friend, or speak with the parents and see if you can reconcile the boys.
