DD2 has been in cloth since she was born is now 2.2, she has always had really nasty nappy rash, i thought this was just her and would argue with anyone whop said that cloth causes nappy rash, anyway we moved house 2 months ago and I put her in disposables while we moved, her nappy rash cleared up instantly, she has been in disposables since, yesterday i decided that i am not paying out any more money (or compromising my principles) and put her back in her cloths, this morning she has nappy rash again.
I wash at 60, use ecover, never use fabric conditioner. I occasionally boil wash and extra rinse, any ideas what couls be causing it?

Where is the rash and what nappies and wraps are you using?

If you have hard water there might be detergent buildup on your nappies and someone else will be along in a minute to tell you how to strip them.

Izzywhizzy · 04/06/2008 11:11

Agree with the detergent build up as possible build up. The way to strip it is to put them through a hot wash with no detergent and a slug of white wine vinegar.

You could also look at the detrgent you;re using. Everything except Surecare causes nappy rash in my dd so we can't use anything else.

And if all else fails, you could try bunging them in the freezer overnight. If it's thrush causing the rash, the freezer should kill the bugs.

I'm sure some real nappy experts will be along soon to give you some more advice, but I hope that helps.

Not hard water, selection of nappies but mainly fleeced lined ones, they are very old, been through dd1 too. I had thought about getting washer balls.
Do you actually need degergant?

My dd's nappies do. Her wee is really pongy and the liners don't always catch the poos.

Flamesparrow · 04/06/2008 11:36

What is the rash like?

DS can't tolerate fleece

Flamesparrow · 04/06/2008 11:37

Fleece reaction is often crater like sores, hence asking about the rash

electricbarbarella · 04/06/2008 11:53

Actually that would be about right, we have ended up at the docs many times as she has had huge sores that then get infected.
Why would they react to fleece then, even the nappies that don't have liners I still use fleece in.
If it was that could i get round it by using a paper liner on top of the fleece or are we stuck with disposables?

I'm not too sure why they react - it isn't desperately common, but some do.

Most of the time we were fine with a paper liner on top. the thicker ones tend to give more of a barrier from the fleece

electricbarbarella · 04/06/2008 12:03

cool, will try and get some liners later then.
Thanks.
