My 13 year old daughter wants to use makeup to cover her acne

My husband and I are on the fence about allowing our daughter to wear makeup to cover her acne. I've used and still use makeup to cover my acne. But I can't promise that my makeup hasn't made my acne use.

My husband is worried that makeup will make her look older than her age. He's more in the "no" category than I am, but he said he will follow my lead.

Being a teen is hard and I don't want to make things harder for her. I just don't know what to do.

I started to develop acne at age 11/12 and wore concealer every day. It was my absolute saviour and made me able to forget my acne and get on with my day. I really don’t think it made my acne worse - in fact perhaps the opposite as it stopped me touching and picking the spots (since I didn’t want to disturb the concealer).

My own DDs have sadly started to get spots and I am teaching them about concealer, as well as skincare. My 12 yo wears concealer and mascara and I’m fine with that. Does it make her look older? Yes maybe a bit. Who cares?? If it helps her confidence that’s far more important. Not sure where your DH is coming from tbh.

Please get your DD some make up - a lightweight tinted moisturiser and a good concealer. Do make sure the shade is a good match though as nothing makes acne more obvious than mismatched orange concealer.

Accutane may not be the best choice for her. We took our dd to the dermatologist and we are trying some less harsh treatments.

absolutely let her use makeup. Help her make good choices that will not clog her pores and are age appropriate. The available products have changed so much since we were teens.

I want to say yes but I'm afraid it will break her out more.

Not removing makeup properly (wipes instead of cleanser) and using dirty brushes cause spots. Get her colour matched for some foundation.

This is really good stuff. Not total coverage but will disguise the redness… Dr.Jart+ Cicapair™ Soothing Color Correcting Treatment SPF30
Also it’s more of a moisturiser than makeup.
