Is a pixie cut the only style option?

Super-curly haired three year old. Hair gets knotted/tatty very easily and she really doesn't like having her hair brushed/runs away. Her Dad says she might want long hair when she starts School. Right now it's shoulder-length.

Maybe only comb when wet with conditioner on it?

Experiment with oil, conditioner, post shampoo spray. Wide toothed wooden combs, tangle teaser brushes. Get her involved with managing it and deciding which products (from your selection). If it’s long enough to plait that can help overnight. Try, much easier said than done, to have A L L the time in the world to brush it, whilst listening to a story, music, watching TV

If you pixie cut her hair, and continue brushing it regularly, she can get used to brushing while it it’s unchallenging. You can also get used to trying different products and regimes as it grows.

As her hair grows, its care will just be an extension of what you always do, and she can get more involved in her hair care.

Thank you! This is what I will do

Gosh this is a tricky one but I wouldn’t cut her hair, it takes so long to grow back.

My daughters hair is the same and we’ve found washing once a week and brushing morning and before bed with a leave in conditioner has been the trick for us.

I would let it grow. Wash infrequently, maybe once a week or when really necessary, wide toothed comb morning and night with some leave in product. As it grows the weight will carry it down and it will be lovely. You can then plait it for school or bedtime or activities.

Thanks for all the tips everyone, we have trimmed it to a pixie cut and plan on styling/brushing daily to help her get used to it in case she wants to grow it long. The way I see it is, we wouldn't put a little boy through the upsetting hair brushing of long hair so we shouldn't put her through it either if it's not what she really wants.
