If you were honest (noisy babies on buses)

If you have a baby aged approx 9-12 months and they get a fit of loud giggles* on the bus, do you hype them up and get them to do it more and more, or sort of encourage them to quiet down?

*that kind of giggling and high pitched scream that young babies do

I love a giggling happy squealing baby.

A bus is not a library. If you don't like noise or people, you shouldn't be on it.

I'll remember that the next time someone tells some teens to quieten down.

I think the truth is that a baby is less able to control themselves and emotionally regulated generally so allowances should be made. I don't think the bus is designated as a noisy zone. It's definitely indoor voices if not whispers to each other

No way would I be encouraging it. It's annoying!

I’d not be encouraging anything that resulted in any form of shrieking. Giggling is fine (if the person is capable of giggling without shrieking, my two have been).

I wouldn’t say a bus is a noisy zone but it’s also not a quiet zone - it’s not whispers. It’s surely just normal talking volume. 85% of people on the bus have headphones on anyway, but even before then… plenty of people chat on buses. It’s unreasonable to expect library-style whispers, and unreasonable to encourage shrieks and shouting

I think if my kids were shrieking I’d at least be saying inside voice, no and sssshhhh because I know those sounds can absolutely go through you. If they were giggling I’d let them giggle away.
