shes refusing food and screaming sat in high chair.

Cold food mostly to soothe gums.

cucumber straight from the fridge
Cold custard, yogurt, ice cream - get some energy in her

Are they her first teeth?

We have had bottom teeth for a while and now the top 2 are coming through, soothing foods like cucumber sticks, celery and spring onions seem to go down really well. As well as cold food like yogurt, cooled porridge.

I also find the teething powder works, I tie a know in the corner of a muslin, make it damp with some water and sprinkle on the teething powder for my baby to chew on.

Can my 10 month old have ice cream and custard? (I thought sugars etc). If so what brand?

Personally I wouldn’t give a 10m old ice cream and custard but doubt it’ll do her any harm
if she’s still having breast milk or formula I wouldn’t worry for a few days personally about the food.
try cold things and soft things, but don’t stress

you could try
soft fruits like peaches nectarines watermelon and bananas
cereal like weetabix and milk, add some fruit purée to it or some desiccated coconut or coconut milk to entice her a bit.
soft cheese and Greek yogurt

also does she need to be in her high chair? Could she sit on your lap or on a blanket in the living room, or just have some food that doesn’t stain much whilst she toddles around?

Yogurt, custard, fruit pouches, even meal pouches if she'll have them.

It's not going to destroy their diet forever to have custard and yoghurts while they are in pain.

I always have full fat custard as it's better, imo, than sugar substitutes in low fat ones. Given the amount a 10 month old will eat it's not a huge amount of sugar.

For some reason I’m worried if she goes back to puree type smooth food, she won’t want to chew again? I’m being stupid right? 🙈

shes not going to go to high school blending up her food is she, she’ll absolutely go back to chewing even if it takes a week or two. If you had sore gums you probably wouldn’t want to eat much either, it’s not a big deal, just let her have what she wants and know she’s getting what she needs from the milk and anything else you can get in her is a bonus.

I realise my last post might sound flippant or dismissive. I absolutely had the same panic at that point too, but she will be fine

If you had major dental work done would you worry about having soup and custard for a few days?

It's just the same for her - probably worse in many ways as the teeth have to cut through the gums.

I've had 6 kids. All have had custard and yogurt periods when teething, just as they've had soup and custard when they've had their big teeth coming through when older, all eat food appropriate for their ages now.
