Experiences after 1 year vaccinations - time off work etc?

My DS was very upset and unsettled for a week after his 12 week vaccinations and I’d wish I’d known about that being quite common at the time.

How are babies normally with their one year vaccines please?

Most people I know reported a minor fever that came and went within 48 hours or so however my DD reacted badly, and came out in a full body rash, high temp and totally miserable for 4-5 days. I think it can vary hugely from child to child!

Never had any issues. Calpol sorted any short-term temperatures.

tripleginandtonic · 25/09/2025 11:04

Gave calpol after injections and my dc were all fine.

No need to take time off work... mine had no problems at all, but calpol will be fine if they have a temperature or seem a bit grizzly for 24 hours afterwards.

Hardhaton1 · 25/09/2025 11:09

Don’t take them back to nursery they need observing closely for the first 12 hours at least

Pomer0l · 25/09/2025 11:55

Just be aware the MMR kicks in 6-10 days after vaccination so you may notice fever/rarely rash/grumpiness around then

xxxwd · 25/09/2025 12:01

No issues with either child.

LavenderBlue19 · 25/09/2025 12:17

Mine had a bit of a fever from the 12 week ones and was pretty unsettled for 24-48 hours, but nothing after the 1 year ones.

Canopop · 25/09/2025 12:20

No issues no fever

FuzzyWolf · 25/09/2025 12:22

Typically if they are unwell then it’s a week or so later.

Plastictreees · 25/09/2025 12:24

I wasn’t back at work then but I don’t recall any issues at all.

whatsit84 · 25/09/2025 12:28

Mine were both fine with the earlier ones but after the one year ones I took DS1 to the GP as he was so off it. GP said this was super common after 1 year jabs. For context he has been to the GP about twice since and he’s 9, so it really did do something!

I had 2 days of annual (3 days off including non working days) for each of her 12 months vaccines

She had a reaction to the 4 month vaccine and screamed for 3 days due to a strong reaction to the menB vaccine. She had the MMR and menB individually and then the other 2 together. She started with chicken pox the same day she had the MMR and she had a similar reaction to the menB, although slightly less intense, to how she reacted at 4 months which was how we identified that as the troublesome vaccine.
She was ok with the MMR and other vaccines. She had her MMR and flu vaccines and went back to nursery and was fine.

OtterMummy2024 · 25/09/2025 14:30

Mine was fine and went straight to nursery after.

123Carrotake · 25/09/2025 18:31

Totally fine. Mine was quite ill with pretty much every vaccination until 6 months so I was worried about the 12 month ones but he was fine. We paid for chicken pox vaccine too and he was fine with that too.

veggietate · 25/09/2025 18:52

Great thank you all. I didn’t know about the one week thing so will make a note in my diary to keep alert!

Yes we are considering getting the chicken pox one too..
