Speech and language, his size, movement and processing. I noticed from age 2 there was issues but other than speech (which he is very delayed in) nothing else got looked at. He is 5 in a few weeks and is tiny and is still in 2-3 clothes and at 1 percentile (he was born 5 weeks premature but should of caught up). School has noticed he walks like he's walking on a boat and he has always wanted to be picked up, walks extremely slowly, can't run properly or jump. Also apparently his understanding isn't where it should be and he needs to be led a lot. No one knows what it is and no one has suggested autism or adhd, in fact they have all said he's a conundrum! I don't know what I want to get out of this post I just feel so sad that my boy has all these multiple issues :( anyone else been through something similar?

My DS was premmie and was wearing age 2 clothes at 5. He remained small until Yr10. He was one size behind in tops and two in trousers for most of his school career. He's now 6 foot.

Part of smallness was physical delays like buttons and zips. It does sound like your DC has other delays that might need addressing much more. The balance issue sounds like dyspraxia/core strength. This can be related to early birth. However, with the speech delay in particular I would get any help/referral on offer.

Could be relat ed to a sd- the delayed speech.
the height probably not that unusual when mum is around 5th percentile. The smallest kids in dd class the mum is around 5ft but dad is 6ft. And the other very tiny girl the dad is probably 5'7 bu t mum maybe 5'6 or so.
was he definitely so prem? As dc was measuring 3 day s ahead by 7weeks and dnded up 8lb8. But they also changed the due date as nhs is solely done on size. So if he was small in utero his due date would have been later.

legs could be hypermobile?

Was it a traumatic birth?

I don't think anyone is thinking it's autism or ADHD, but whatever you find it to be, the important thing is to focus on the fact your son is developing. Maybe more slowly, but life isn't a race, he's talking now, he's at school, he's always been small but sounds like he's tracking his percentile.

It's going to be hard not to catastrophise if you start looking into the possible conditions, so keep in mind that he's moving forward, he sounds happy and has good people around him. A lot of the cases you might read about wouldn't get to 5 before being referred, so he's probably at the milder end.

I hope it goes as well as possible for you all, take care.

The smallness on its own could well be expected. Some children have to be at the bottom of the chart, and it’s more likely to be the ones with small parents. I know, because I have a 0.4th percentile child and I am small. However, I’m shocked that combined with a speech delay and an obviously ‘different’ gait this hasn’t been picked up sooner. I took my child to the HV and GP more than once about weight, and they always looked at the bigger developmental picture and took it seriously. I’m sorry you have been fobbed off before OP, but hopefully now you’ll start to see some progress. I’m not clear from your post where the school has referred too, but if I were you I would be seeing the GP separately as well.
