Ingenious solution required for dummy falling out of the cot problem

DD (11mo) often loses her dummy out of the cot while she is settling down and early in the morning. I need a solution to stop her waking us up so early and the morning, and getting so hysterical at night. Would a soother saver be safe at night? Not sure it would be very comfy for her as she appears to just crash face first down when she exhausts herself

I'm sure there is a very simple but ingenious solution I am missing, any tips?

Put lots in the cot

AlistairSim · 02/06/2008 21:44

Duct tape.

Can leave a nasty rash though.

Lots of glow in the dark ones worked for us

At least 30 dummies, cot bumper tied very securely etc etc A few more months and she'll have got the hang of putting it back in her self.

WideWebWitch · 02/06/2008 21:47

a dummy holder, they're fab. She'll find it and put it back in herself before long.

WideWebWitch · 02/06/2008 21:48

like this

Really, glow in the dark ones? You can really get them? They're not too distracting?

Looks like we might actually make use of the cot bumper that someone gave us [gave]. Better get a truck load of dummies in, anything for a lie in (till 7 .

WW that's what I meant by a soother saver (sorry, that's what mine was called when I bought it ) are they safe for night-time ?(PFB alert!)

i wouldnt use a soother saver at night tbh, just put lots of dummies in the cot!

PussinJimmyChoos · 02/06/2008 21:53

We had glow in the dark ones but didn't find them much use - just put lots in the cot and rely on the law of averages that she is bound to find at least one when she needs it!

Btw - did you name your DH's photography company yet?

Chipstick · 02/06/2008 21:54

sellotape

muddypuddle · 02/06/2008 21:54

tie several of them to the corners of a muslin - another mnetter suggested this and it works beautifully.

lackaDAISYcal · 02/06/2008 21:57

lol, my first thought on reading this was gaffa tape

agree with the lots of them in the cot and hope she finds one. could you also maybe try weaning her off them? or is that a Baaaaaaaad idea?

lackaDAISYcal · 02/06/2008 21:57

oooh, I like muddypuddles idea!

littleboyblue · 02/06/2008 21:57

I use the bumper on the side of the cot. It says on the pack that you shouldn't put then to bed with a dummy holder attached, don't see why though, the cord isn't long enough to do any harm. Does anyone know why you shouldn't use them at bedtime?

BumperliciousNeedsToSleep · 02/06/2008 21:58

Muddlypuddle, that's a lovely idea

Puss, thanks for asking, we did - Juno Photography, (we got junophotgraphy.co.uk!) and another mnetter was looking for graphic design work experience (for free) so is going to design us a logo!

Avent night-time glow in the dark soothers

We used MAM ones I think.

WideWebWitch · 02/06/2008 22:03

I think it says from birth on that site, not sure, I certainly would use one (and did, both children) at 11mos. They're not liong enough to strangle them or anything.

PussinJimmyChoos · 02/06/2008 22:04

Bumper - I like that name Congrats....or should I be that you didn't use any of my suggestions

RiojaLover75 · 02/06/2008 22:20

Definately get a soother saver! They were invaluble to our DS2 as his brother used to grab his dummy and deliberately throw it on the floor (DS1 had huge issues when DS2 was born). Now it's always clipped to him, it's fab, no more tears!

Libby386363 · 01/04/2022 20:06

I this is very old, but I have come across this in search for lost dummy solutions, so incase anyone else does… the reason you shouldn’t use dummy clips at night is that the plastic parts could be a choking hazard.
