Outgrown travel cot but won't sleep in pram

Hi my two year old son can climb out of his travel cot now. We are luckily enough to have grandparents look after him 2 days a week (a day with each set) and so the travel cot is regularly used for his midday nap. It doesn't feel safe now he's climbing out but he's never been a flexible sleeper and will not sleep in the pram. He will put himself to sleep in the cot but after much messing around and singing to himself! We have a ready bed that we use for camping but neither grandparents have a child-proof room he can be left in unattended. He isn't ready to drop his nap. Has anyone had a similar issue, any suggestions? All my friends have kids that will just collapse if they are tired enough but that is not my son, he will just keep on trucking unless he has a calm space where there's nothing else to do!

Can he climb out of a playpen? Could he have a ready bed inside a playpen to keep him safe? Alternatively, bed guards on one of their existing beds?

He’ll likely drop his nap soon - mine both did by 2.5. Can the grandparents set him up on their sofa and one of them stay with him with a book or something?

If he sleeps well in the travel cot can grandparents just stay nearby and listen out for him waking or keep a cheap sound monitor on them while he is sleeping?

I'd suggest a grandparent staying nearby the cot to ensure he doesn't climb out. It won't be long until he stops napping and makes more sense than just leaving him in a room that's not been childproofed.

I'd just keep using the travel cot and use a monitor, or put him to sleep in a double bed where he can climb out safely.

How much child proofing needs to be done in reality?

If they look after him weekly then can they really not sort a bedroom for him to nap in? It doesn’t need to be a fully on baby proofing for a 2YO, just remove any breakables and anything like heavy floor mirrors but usual bedroom furniture is fine and then stick a bed guard on whatever bed is in there. It’s a bit odd neither will do this despite committing to weekly childcare.

A 2 year old should be ready to be in a bed not a cot anyway (assuming no additional needs). What child-proofing does the room need? Surely anything breakable can be taken out the room or put on a high shelf but by 2yo, most ‘baby proofing’ things shouldn’t really be necessary. They can use a baby monitor to hear when he wakes and sit with him until he falls asleep if necessary.
Or get in the routine of having quiet time after lunch. Stories or TV on the sofa with a blanket and hopefully he’ll nod off while granny can sit reading the paper next to him for half an hour or so.
