Size 6 nappies leaking in the night

My little one is around nine months old now. We’ve recently changed to size 6 nappies as we noticed size 5 were leaking all the time. But I’m still having this problem in the night with size 6! Is anyone else having the same problem? Need suggestions for decent size 6 nappies, we’ve tried pampers, Aldi and Asda.

Tesco pull up ones I have found to be great

SpottyDottie98 · 18/09/2025 05:24

Try nappy pants/pull ups. Also, are you sure on your sizing? I know they're vary a bit (children and nappy sizes) but my 3 year old is in Lidl size 6 pull ups at night

Devilsmommy · 18/09/2025 05:35

I was going to say the same @SpottyDottie98 . My 3 year old is in size 6 pull ups. They may be leaking because they're too big

Size 6 for a 9 month old?

supercalifragilistic123 · 18/09/2025 06:10

They're almost definitely too big. My 7 year old wears size 6 at night.

Nursemumma92 · 18/09/2025 07:27

Size down, my DD who is 2.5 wears size 5 pull ups at night.

How much does your 9 month old weigh?

Danniellec · 18/09/2025 07:42

@Financeisfunyes, he was born big and is generally a lot bigger for his age. He’s wearing 12-18 month clothing.

@supercalifragilistic123I’m not sure tbh as he hasn’t been weighed for a while, it may be worth me getting this done

@Nursemumma92the size 5s were leaking day and night that’s why we sized up. When putting the nappy on the straps are in the right place etc.

Even if he's big that size nappy still seems on the larger size. I would be inclined to go down to a size 4 pull up if a size 5 nappy is leaking.

mynameiscalypso · 18/09/2025 07:48

I agree on the sizing. My niece is 4 but is bigger than my 6 year old and she’s still wearing a size 6 at night.

I imagine the size 5s were too big also. That is what my 14kg 2.5 year old is wearing at night. She is bang average for her age, not small. I think you need to try size 4s. 9 month olds typically weigh 7-10.5kg after a quick google, so size 3 or 4 nappies is what you need I would imagine

Copperoliverbear · 18/09/2025 08:08

@Danniellec Naty nappies are the best.

casualcrispenjoyer · 18/09/2025 08:09

You need to size up the vest that goes on them

thats what causes the leaks

Copperoliverbear · 18/09/2025 08:10

Also you might be using a nappy that is too big definitely try Naty, I worked with children for nearly 40 years changed nappy’s every day. Naty definitely the best.

MyAcornWood · 18/09/2025 08:11

I’m not going to say the size is wrong as my boy was (is!) very big for his age and was always in much bigger nappies than people would think for his age but we used to have trouble with his nappies leaking at night once he got to around that age, iirc. I used to double up, nappy then pull up. Seemed to do the trick!
Also make sure his vest is roomy enough. If that gets too tight once the nappy is full, it’ll leak for sure. Might be worth trying different nappy brands too, they’re different shapes etc.

SpottyDottie98 · 18/09/2025 08:23

Yes, I agree with the vest advice as well, I always found once the vests started getting a bit snug, the nappies leaked more. I reckon the 5s were leaking because they were too big as well. But I think you'll have more luck with pull ups. I always find they're much less likely to leak than nappies, particularly at night. I'd be tempted to size down and switch to pull ups. My 3 year old was a bigger baby, always between the 75th and 91st percentile for weight and height and he's in 6s now. My smaller (25th percentile) 8 month old is just about out of size 2s and into 3s, so if your boy is on the bigger percentile side too, I'd give size 4 pull ups a go. I've found Lidl nappies and pull ups to be really good this time round.

Superscientist · 18/09/2025 10:57

My daughter was in size 4 nappies when she was in ages 12-18 month clothes.

My newborn was getting leaks in size 1 nappies and we had to drop to size 0 even though he's over the weight range. His clothes size matches is weight but he has a skinny bottom so needs a smaller nappy

pinksavannah · 18/09/2025 11:03

i think it’s depends on the shape of your baby if that makes sense 😅

it was at that size we tried every make going and the only ones that worked were pampers baby dry 😭

Bitzee · 18/09/2025 11:04

Echo everyone else saying they’re too big. I’ve never even bought size 6 nappies- even with an 80th percentile child he was still in 5s when he became dry at night at 2 and a half. Daytime leaks in size 5s also suggests too big since you change more frequently in the day so it won’t be the volume of wee. 12-18 months clothes probably correlate with size 4 nappies. Maybe even 3s if he’s long but skinny. I’d try size 4 nappy pants, since I find the pants expand better than the taped variety, and make sure his vests are not too tight giving the nappy plenty of room to expand, also frills out and penis pointing down.

My 5 year old (16kg) is in a size 6 and the legs gape on him, he can get leaks day and night around his legs so I can imagine they would be too big for a 9 month old. I'd play around with brands, we find Sainsbury's to be one of the best fits as they are elasticated at the back which seems to help the fit. At night I pop a washable wrap over the top.
