Joie Chrome - lie flat?

Hi,

My 5 week old hates being in the bassinet of his pram. I have the Joie Chrome which I was told is lie flat so I thought about using the pram unit rather than the bassinet but I’m not sure if he’s too young for it? The pram has 3 heights it clicks into, the lowest of which isn’t flat. The seat can be put flat but it doesn’t ‘click’ into this position so I’m not sure if it should be used like that.
The instruction manual is really unhelpful! The pram also came with another seat insert, I’m wondering if this should be put into the pram to make the seat smaller?

If anyone has this pram and can advise, that would be great - thanks!

5 weeks old is far, far too young I'm afraid.

Your baby doesn't hate the bassinet, they're just not used to it or even the world yet. Give it time x

Even if it is in a completely lie flat position? I’m trying to find out if the lowest position that it clicks into is infact what Joie refer to as ‘lie flat’ or if the position it can go to without clicking in is safe to use. I’ve emailed Joie and am awaiting a reply, their website and manual aren’t clear at all. It refers to the pram being suitable from newborn without any mention of the bassinet.

I understand he needs to get used to the world but he gets incredibly distressed when in the bassinet, so I’d love to avoid it if possible.

I think the question is if he prefers it being strapped in lying flat? See how comfortable and supportive he finds it and then make your decision like that.

I personally wouldn't because I do not find the straps suitable for a newborn and if it isn't completely flat then I wouldnt either.

Does he happily lie flat elsewhere?

I have the same Joie and I found my little one just wasn't happy on her back, or out of my arms at all, but I got a Rockit so that it would move and she seemed to like it.

He tends to, yes! I’ll take a look at a rockit.

It might at least distract him when you're putting him in and that could set him up for staying in it longer.

I really don't think you could strap a 5 week old in safely, they're so small. I didn't feel comfortable using mine till about 4 months..

From what I remember when I looked into prams a few years ago, ones advertised as lie flats aren’t really lie flat at all and aren’t suitable for newborns. We bought a bassinet for our son even though we knew it wouldn’t get much use .

You can buy the adapters to put the car seat on the frame. I had a Joie chrome when mine was 3 months and he lay flat in it just fine. 5 weeks is a bit too small still I think. It's definitely the best pram all round especially as you can keep baby parent facing when they're little 😊
