British Biracial (black and white) family living in the UK - the news & MSM is terrifying me. I’m terrified my children will experience implicit and explicit abuse just because of their ethnicity. I want them to grow up in an environment that sees them as an equal and worthy member of society. Anything less than that I cannot comprehend.

It feels and is being portrayed that Britain is headed toward the horrors of the 80s. Do we need to make plans to move abroad?

Anyone else biracial, experiencing the same concerns?

Am I overreacting?

I just want my loved ones to be safe.

I’m white and live in a multicultural city. Please remember that there were 0.2% of the population at the rally yesterday, mostly men. Many of the vocal people on social media are not even from the UK. The Prime Minister needs to nip this in the bud, though.

Where would you think about going if you did move? I dont think you're overreacting. If I wasn't white I'd be feeling just as uncomfortable as my non white friends right now.

Before I get jumped on by others, its not the actual flag thats making them feel this way, but they're not stupid, they know that theyre being flagged AT.

We’d love to love to Bali but don’t know if logistically and / or financially we’d be able to

I'm not biracial, I'm Black but yes it's scary. I honestly can't be bothered to move though.

My son's biracial. Id be worried if we lived in London. As it is, we live in a small city with city of sanctuary status for welcoming refugees, and a pretty diverse community thanks to the University recruiting both international staff and mature students who bring over their families. Im not worried about his childhood here, but there's places all around the world including the UK that id be wary of him visiting or living when he's a grown man.

My children are biracial. I’m not worried but that’s because of where we live and the diverse community we have.

I don't think you're over-reacting at all. I'm white and feel sick at what this country has openly become (I suspect it was always so behind closed doors).

DH and I have been looking into other options, but neither of us had any familial connection to any EU countries, which would be my preferred option. But to be honest we've really struggled to find anywhere that doesn't have a similar issue at the moment.

It's so depressing and frightening.

I hope Starmer gets a grip on it all. He has shown a more critical side today than he had previously to this current movement, so maybe change is coming? The problem is that people who we run shoulders with on a daily basis have v down their true colours, and I can't see past that.

I am mixed heritage, unlikely to be under any genuine threat, but feel worried and fearful like I did as a kid in the 70s, when we got dog shit through the letter box. It makes my stomach and heart clench.

The things being voiced now have been unacceptable for a long while, but here we are hearing so much abject racism being voiced as "just an opinion" and somehow okay.

ScampiDresser · 14/09/2025 19:21

The racists are now emboldened and you have every right to be worried.

WhereAreWeNow · 14/09/2025 19:22

Not overreacting but sadly I don’t know where you could go. We've been talking about this a lot recently and always come to the conclusion that the far right are on the rise everywhere so we're better off staying put in the place we've all grown up where we have family and friends and neighbours who are good, anti-racist, progressive people. Better than starting from scratch in a strange place where we have no networks and where the far right could also take hold and where we might be viewed with hostility as immigrants/outsiders.

I was thinking Bali as there’s a hide ex pat community there. But yes take your points!
