We are hosting a relaxed 'party in the garden' for DD turning 7. There will be c15 kids there - it's a decent sized garden. Last year the kids LOVED trying to eat doughnuts hanging from string, pinyata, pin the horn on the unicorn and apple bobbing - so I'll wheel them out again. But I'm keen to hear of any other simple but fun games I can try. Messy is fine! Did there used to be something about eating a square of choc/sweet out of a tray of flour....??

I think we did the chocolate in flour one taking it in turns to roll a dice and if you get a 6 you take over from the person trying to find the chocolate. You can’t use your hands so I seem to remember sticking your face in it !

A variation was having to put on a hat scarf and gloves then using a knife and fork to cut up a big bar of chocolate. You could only eat what was cut into single pieces. Again, lost your go when someone rolled another six

Yes there is a game where you sit in a circle with gloves scarf and hat in the middle, also a knife and fork and big bar of chocolate on a chopping board. Take turns to throw a die, if you get a 6 you put on the hat and gloves and scarf and use the cutlery to cut and eat as much choc as possible until the next person throws a 6, then they take over.

I have no idea who invented this, written down it sounds insane but it’s definitely a thing 🤣

Egg and spoon race, three legged race, sack race… if you have space

Pass the balloon game (no hands)

What about a tiddlywinks course? I liked that as a child and my children do too. My mum sets up a course for two people going over cushions and books and ending up having to get it into egg cups at the end. You can do it in teams with the next person starting as soon as the counter is in the egg cup

A favourite game we played was ‘don’t eat Tommy smartie’. You have a plate with some smarties on and the children sit round it. One child is chosen to go out of sight. Whilst out of sight the remaining children choose which is ‘Tommy smartie’. The child comes back and starts eating the smarties. When they touch ‘Tommy smartie’, everyone shouts ‘don’t eat Tommy smartie!’

We’ve got the taskmaster board game and some of those tasks would probably work quite well - my favourite was to make the best picture out of a slice of bread by eating bits of it
