Potty training - do I keep going?

Currently attempting to potty train my DS today for the first time

DS is 2.5 years, shows the following signs -
Wants nappy changed when full from wee or poo, tries pulling it off and willingly lets me change it.
Saying “wee wee” “poo poo” and pointing down the toilet.
Hiding when going for a poo

Whilst watching tv he has sat on the potty and done some wees , by chance I suppose. But we also have had mostly accidents.

This morning he i asked him to do his wee on the potty and he did it. Since then a couple caught whilst watching tv and iv cheered and made a fuss.

But I don't think he has made the connection yet, if i ask him to do a wee, he might sit down but he isn't doing it in the potty.

He is at nursery on Monday, do I keep persisting?

What do I do with nursery, do I send him with no nappy if he manages a couple of wees in the potty?

of course you keep persisting.
you persist until it's established.
for the first day it sounds like it's been a success (several pee's in the potty).

My concern is that they happen to be caught whilst he was sitting watching tv. But I let him do that to get things going so I could praise him but since then its been accidents repeatedly

Sounds great for a first day! I'd recommend that tomorrow you try to "catch" the wees if you have somewhere wipeable. So leave him with no trousers/pants and watch him like a hawk. If he gets fidgety or looks uncomfortable you pop him on and tell him its time for a wee. He needs to get used to the feeling of needing one, if you see what I mean. It usually takes at least a day to get that, often two or three. Nursery are presumably used to potty training kids - have you spoken to them and asked them their policy? Some are very helpful, some are ....... not.

Accidents are part of learning. They have to happen some time! 2.5 is perfect timing for most kids.

(Caveat: some arent ready at this age. One of my four really wasn't. If there's no awareness of needing to go e.g. by getting fidgety and grouchy if they haven't been sat down for a while, then I'd stop and wait a month or two and then try again.)
