Toddler number 2s at nursery

So ds will be 3 in a few months. We potty trained back in May/June time and since then he's been doing really well. He has been fab at home and never has any accidents when he's with me or family (although still not dry at night) but it took him a really long time to be OK with doing poos at nursery and he'd do his best to hold it until he got home sometimes having accidents or getting constipated as a result. He's now, thankfully past that and is pooing when he needs to at nursery, however I always know when he's gone because he comes home with pants covered in poo. He's capable of going to the toilet to pee alone and will use his potty independently at home too but still needs help cleaning his bum properly. From the way his pants are coming home he's clearly going to the toilet and then pulling his pants straight up without wiping. It's to the point where around his anus is getting quite red and I've had to start using nappy cream on him again. I've spoken to the nursery to ask them to ask him if he's done a poo before he pulls his pants up and I've asked him to tell a grown up when he's pooed so they can clean his bum properly before his pants get dirty but he's still refusing and to be honest I'm not sure they're asking. It comes home completely dried in and I can smell it off him immediately so I know he's been in it a while. If it happens again I'm going to have another chat with the nursery about it but anything else anyone would recommend? We will be working on learning how to wipe himself properly but he's still too little to really be able to reach properly. He still seems to have a bit of embarrassment about it with nursery staff.

OP the length of his arms is proportional to the size of his body, so he can definitely reach to wipe.

That's not to say that he'll be very good at it for a while though.

Practicing at home by getting him to wipe himself is the key, so stop doing it for him at home and just 'supervise' his wiping, and make sure he has what he needs to wipe himself at nursery.

With my eldest, I provided flushable wet wipes which he used after wiping with toilet paper. It worked well and within weeks he was wiping quite 'efficiently', though the odd skid mark still present in his underwear now and then.

Speak to the nursery. They should be supporting with this part of potty training. None of mine wiped properly till they were 4. It's quite an awkward movement and you can't really see what you're doing so it takes a fair bit of practice.
