14 month old- changes in growth rate

Hi there,

I have a fantastic 14 month old son. Up until 9/10 months he was very long in length, consistently outgrowing clothes a month or more ahead of their age range. However, in terms of length his growth has slowed a lot and he has been in 9-12 month clothes since just before 9 months. He’s always looked well and been 50th centile for weight despite awful reflux, he’s now just below the 50th centile for weight but looks well and is quite round.

I’m going to check In with our health visitor about this but they didn’t have any concerns at our 12 month review so hopefully that means all is fine. Just curious if anyone else has had a similar experience?

Thanks!

My daughter dropped from the 25th to the 1st percentile for length/height between 1 and 2. Another reflux baby, also has a bunch of allergies. Her weight stayed on the 25th-50th percentile. She stabilised on the 1st until recently aged 5 when she moved up to the 4th. No cause has been identified
She was in 9-12 month clothes for over a year!
She's 5 now and still fits in of 18-24 months t shirts although is 2-3 or 3-4 for long sleeved t shirts or trousers - she's got a short body

Thanks for your reply and sharing your experience. That must have been really tough navigating reflux and multiple allergies. How were your daughters reflux symptoms between 1-2? My son is breastfed and I’ve been dairy free over a year although as far as I could tell it didn’t seem to impact his reflux. He hated solid food till around 11 months (which is also the age when he stopped throwing up so much) and he seemed to be in discomfort when eating till that age. He does eat fairly happily now but not huge amounts.

She was slow to engage with weaning too. It took until 13 months for her to start eating. During which time she only gained a minimal amount of weight and her reflux was much better, we had managed to get her down to 1 medication from 3 and were on the verge of stopping that. Then she started eating and gaining weight again and her reflux returned full force. It took 4 months to get it back under control and back on all 3 reflux meds. She went through another relapse at 3 and that took another 4-6 months to sort out. Growth spurts trigger her reflux and as she only responds to the highest doses of omperazole we find ourselves sometimes fighting highest dose for age Vs highest dose for weight.
She's 5 and we are having another go of weaning her off reflux meds. She's not had to have them changed since June 2024 so we are hopeful we can keep at least get it down to being managed with just omperazole.
