Is anyone else finding that things are becoming wrong for children much more often?

I got told by my HV that DD shouldn't have my keys as it would make her ill.
I remember playing in the dirt when I was little and it hasn't harmed me. Is this just cos I was older or has things changed?

I always thought it was good for the immune system to have things in little doses (I mean isn't that the basis of the jabs they have? A little of the disease?)

Is anyone else finding this?

Seems more to do with your HV's personal hangups iyswim. Mine never told me anything silly that I can remember.
But you have got a point, some people do get obsessive with hygiene. I've got friends who are forever dousing their houses in chemicals to keep their children in a bacteria-free environment; can't possibly be good for them.
Mind you, my grandma was totally obsessed with germs and told my Mum off for letting the baby crawl on the floor. This would have been c 1960. My Mum, thankfully, paid no attention.

/some people seem to definately be taking things too far to 'protect' their children from every possible eventuality, which does seem absurd to me, even the thread on the trampoline without a net made me feel this way.

It's not just with babies and children either though is it, it's all thius health and safety regulations gone mad, even grown adults aren't trusted to keep themselves safe so we have all these policies and regulations in place to 'protect' us.

What's wrong with living life a bit dangerously and taking some risks?

Exactly!! Things like the adverts. Watch how this bacteria spreads around your house. Protect your children buy!!! - I know thats just the way advertising works but they must have done some research to see that this kinda of advertising works.

Let the kids roll in the mud.

I had a friend yesterday when we went to the park who wouldnt' let her kid jump in a puddle (tiny puddle, boiling hot day) in case she caught something from it)
