Age of first haircut with ringlet curls?

If you have a girl with ringlet type curls what age did you get their first haircut and did you look specifically for a hairdresser with experience with curly hair? I usually just put the front bit up in a ponytail to keep it out of her face but wondering if it’s time for a haircut too.

Not until age 6. Couldn’t get a haircut cos covid, then she was old enough to have an opinion and didn’t want one. When she finally agreed I took her to a typical kids hairdresser so her toddler brother could have his done at the same time. Fringes or short styles typically don’t work well with curly hair so at the very least I’d skip the haircut until it’s more like shoulder length.

Five. Hairdresser that specialises in curly cuts. Then once a year with same woman. If you are using hair ties make sure they are silk ones. Also, a silk pillowcase makes a huge difference.

she was one, and had it cut into a bob. I feel like if you keep it trimmed it helps the curls come through nicer

3 as it got really knotty and I know from curls myself curly hair needs a regular cut to stop the knots.

I went for a kids specialist hairdresser who was calm had iPads and a fun space as I didn’t want a fear of hairdressers

Mine barely had any hair until she was 2, and had her first haircut just after she turned 3. She’s had 3 little trims in a year.
Honestly, you can’t tell the difference before and after but it removes the ends that get tangly and keeps it in good condition.
I have a hairdresser friend that does it though and doesn’t charge, if I was paying at a hairdresser I’d probably do it myself!

I have ringlet curls and cut my own. Never found a hairdresser that I have felt did a good job on my hair, even supposed curly specialists .

Thanks all for the responses. I don’t think I’d be confident cutting it myself although she barely lets me near her hair so she might not be ready for a hairdresser either. She is currently 3 with hair below the shoulders. My hair is just a frizzy mess so I’m still learning about proper curly hair. I’ve seen various things about hair care routines for curly hair but it all seems a bit complicated for a 3 year old that still hates having her hair done.

DD was 3.5, but sadly I didn't know about curly hairdressers at that stage so it ended up being a bit of a hack job. Agree with previous posters that it only really needs to be a yearly thing. Ask the hairdresser about products, it made a massive difference to the management of DDs hair when we finally invested in some specialist stuff. Spray-on leave in conditioner was a godsend while she was younger and needing her hair tied back at school.
