All inclusive holiday when baby turns 6 months - delay weaning?

Baby will turn 6 months on Wednesday which is also the day we are going to Majorca all inclusive for 10 nights. We haven’t started weaning yet, would it be best to wait until we get back or any suggestions how to do this while we are away? Planning to start with single veg like I did with my eldest. Excited to start with him and think he’s ready just unsure whether to wait.

I'd just leave it for 10 days. You don't need to start with any specific sorts of foods (so long as you ensure they're cut appropriately to prevent choking), but I wouldn't give food from a buffet because of the risk of food poisoning.

We took DS to Turkey when he was 6 months old (but born 5 weeks early so technically 5 months old). I had just started to wean him eg a banana a few times. On the holiday I just took a handful of nutmeg pouches and took a relaxed approach of milk is the main source, let’s see if he shows any signs. I only took pouches because I could trust it as a one vegetable puree. Once we got back I switched to hand held steamed vegetables or making our own blended foods.

I was just thinking about also packing a few pouches for him to try, but wasn’t sure if this would be bad for baby to first start with and if they needed to be fresh? Probably doing a mixture of mainly blw but with some pouches for ease. You wouldn’t think I’d done this before!

I’d leave it until you get back unless they’re really interested in food. Only one of mine was bothered, the others were between 8 and 10 months before they did much more than smush food up in their hands or look disgusted if it found its way to their mouth.

Our paedetrician said we must not delay weaning as in her experience starting later leads to babies getting left behind. 2 weeks is a long time to delay starting at all.

I wondered too about the salt content of buffet food. Would they season everything such as cooked veg?

I would just crack on. No need to offer anything special. Just whatever you eat. We were on holiday (camping, not even a proper table) when our first started weaning. She ate some cucumber and some watermelon and some other random bits. I took my second to Barcelona a little bit older than that and he literally ate pasta and pinxtos for a week off my plate. I don’t think you need to go wild with 3 meals a day, but no harm in offering appropriate foods when you find them.
