What are your 9 / 10 year girls wearing?

My DD isn’t interested in clothes or fashion at all. She likes bright colours and loves it when an outfit ‘comes together’ and she feels like her friends, but she isn’t interested in choosing or putting clothes together (she’s autistic - no idea if this is relevant and aware that lots of children this age don’t care about clothes). So it’s left to me to buy her clothes, which I usually do for winter and then for summer using next, Zara, sports brands and Vinted. Increasingly her peers are into fashion and wearing ‘cool’ stuff (or what I imagine is cool to them). If I’m choosing for my daughter, and she’s not bothered, then I would love to choose things that make her feel special and fit in (which is already difficult tbh). Problem is I’m neither cool or good at putting things together. So what are your girls wearing? She’s sporty, likes cropped boxy tops (but not teeny crops) and has some mild sensory issues to itchy wool etc. she’s happy to wear jeans, leggings, skorts. Sometimes tights are a bit tricky. We have lots of boots, trainers etc (something I am good at)! I need a couple of sport options, a couple of day to day options and a couple of things suitable for birthday parties. Bonus points for links!

My almost 9 year old loves those leggings which are shiny/silky 😄not sure what fabric they are. She isn’t autistic but she have tendencies with clothes, she always feels the fabric first. She likes wearing comfy joggers which all her friends seem to wear too.

I think the leggings are classed as active wear and you can get them flared as well, and in coord sets she and her friends wear them to parties.

Depends what day….one minute she’s in a football
kit, the next day she’s full on girly girl. I just go with it as she’s finding her own way with the clothes. When we were looking at holiday clothes, we had a look online at some put together outfits that she liked and we recreated those. Some girly stuff and some more “street” style edgy stuff too.

So helpful, thank you. Yes to the shiny leggings - we’ve had these over the last couple of years and they work well. I’ve been looking at normal joggers and flared leggings too - feel like I’m on the right lines. Really appreciate your replies

My 10 yr old loves baggy Zara Jeans, t shirts, cardigans over the top. Addidas trainers (definitely from Vinted) dr Marten pull on boots (also Vinted)
then sports leggings/gear and hoodies as shes very sporty. Zara usually ticks all boxes

My oldest dd was not interested in clothes until she went to high school. At 9/10 she would wear the same bright hand me down hoodie from her male cousin almost everyday for 2 years. Towards the end of primary she let me navigate her wardrobe a bit but didn’t really care what I choose. Now she is a nightmare and extremely picky wearing far too many revealing outfits for my liking.

My 11 yo is into the Y2K and trending fashion & 8yo is going from little girl clothes to wanting to dress more like her big sisters.

Flared legging, baggy jeans, denim shorts.

black / white / animal print / tie dye.

Nike pro shorts / leggings

Dd is nearly 10. She wears a lot of Nike (from vinted) - mainly nikepro leggings and shorts with boxy or cropped tshirts. She likes baggy jeans and flared leggings and wears quite a bit of animal print at the moment. Most of her jumpers are quite cropped as well although she has a super dry hoodie which is a more typical length. She wants a white fox hoody but she's small for her age and doesn't want to wear one too oversized. She mostly is pretty 'cool' although not too hung up about it!

Could you get her to buy or choose her clothes? I've older DC but we found at this age the kids who had the most issue with this were the ones where mum bought their clothes. It doesn't matter their style, if they pick their own it gives them more ownership and confidence and to be honest when mums pick I've seen that it's close, but not quite right. I appreciate that the asd might make this more tricky but teaching her to clothes shop is a skill she needs at this age. There's so much variation on what kids wear it is quite hard to say. Watch what her friends wear is a good idea.
