Approaching the birth of baby 3. Always used cloth before and can't this time as will be living with my mother (long story).

I want to get a couple of packs in of newborn size nappies in different brands to try out. What do you recommend and where to get them?

(PS - I did post about this months and months ago and can't find the thread so sorry if you are repeating yourself to me!)

HI there, we're nature babies over here. I do find that sometimes DS gets a little bit of a rash with them, but I still prefer them over and above Huggies etc.

I did notice when mooching round Asda the other day (I know I know, I normally am a waitrose lass but the credit crunch and all that !!! ) that they have started doing an own brand eco disposable.

Does anyone have any experience with them ? they are a couple of pounds cheaper than nature babies and appear to be plant based and 60% biodegradeable same as the Nature babies ?

Also, it says on the NB packs that if you spread the word to friends/other mums they'll do you a deal so you can get cheaper nappies for both you & them. I've never done it or looked further into the details of the offer but maybe us London MNers using them should band together to get a discount!!! Any takers?

Hi - i think the 'eco' ones are produced in a more environmental way eg fewer toxins go into the environment when manufactured, and the Moltex ones are unbleached, and chlorine bleach is a big issue. I think the Moltex ones do degrade well if they are shredded (not plastic tags though). I'm not sure why we had a problem with Nature BC. BF & cleaned botty with water and a little sls-free baby wash, but still nasty rash after 14 weeks. Bizarre that changing nappy did the trick within 24hrs!! Great if you can get on with them though, as are cheaper and easier to get hold of.
Spirit of Nature will send you a few of each Bambo & Moltex if you ask, to try alongside whatever else you want to try. It is a minefield! Never realised there was so much choice in botty swaddling.

Did try Pampers Sensitive also - could also only get from the internet!!!! - and were good but couldn't bear the chemically smell.

All disposables not great for landfill, but some better than others in lower plastics and chemical content/use during manufacture.

Thanks everyone - all very helpful. I am a clothie at heart and will go back to using them once we move back home when baby is about 4 months old. But for the first 4 months i have no choice but to use disposables and no hope of a wormery or composting (central london 3rd floor flat with no outside area and a mother who would die at the thought of a wormery!)

I think I will buy a pack of Nature Baby to try as they are cheap and available locally. I will also get some Bambo and see if it is worth the higher price.

Anyone heard of Tushies? And where can you get those?

if you've not used nature babies for a few years, you must try again! we tried when ds was little (4-5 years ago) and the wee literally went right through them! we use them now with dd when she's not in cloth and they're great.

only gripe is that my tescos doesn't stock them so i either have to remember when i'm in town (which for some reason i NEVER do!) or go to sainsburies specially.
