DS(6) has suddenly decided to go and translate EVERYTHING

Ds(6) knows by now that I speak Dutch and lately he has decided that he will speak pure Dutch to me, which is brilliant, but can also be oh so funny, because he translates things that don't need translating OR if he doesn't know the word in Dutch he'll take the English word and translates each separate part of the word to make up a brand new Dutch word. It can keep me on my toes and this could possibly be turned into a fun word game!
Any other children out there doing the same?

That sounds wonderful! My DS (3) can speak both English and Dutch, but prefers English... Not surprising as we live in England and DH is British. But strangely enough when we go to Holland he switches to Dutch, right until the plane journey home.

Well, they both prefer English, because that's what my dc's speak at school, and are better at it, but for some reason my son has suddenly decided not to mix anymore, which is great, but sometimes funny. DS used to take a day or 2 before he realised that he had to speak Dutch to his cousins in Belgium, he never used to beleive us when we told him to speak Dutch, but obviously soon realised that his cousins didn't understand a word of what he was saying
