6 week old going to an air show?

My husband and son are going to an air show this weekend, I would love to go but we have a baby that is 6 weeks old and I am not sure this is such a good idea with her little ears, also I am a little paranoid about germs and her catching something potentially being around so many people but we will be out in the open.
Would an air show be too loud for her? She is too young for ear defenders. Just a bit un sure what to do.
If this would be too much for a baby, it will be a cute father son day out anyway! :) (our son is almost 3).

She would be absolutely fine but honestly if it's been sold to your son as time with just his dad 1-1 then I wouldn't change that. Having a new sibling is a big adjustment and it's important to make sure he still gets some time alone with his parents.

You can get baby ear defenders - we've used them at wedding when our children are little - as young as 6 weeks old. I'd go if I wanted to go (air shows aren't really my thing though)
It is also nice for your eldest to have a nice daddy and son day out if you wanted to just leave them to go.

I go to a lot of air shows. I wouldn’t take a baby. It’s loud - very loud - and hearing protection is recommended even for adults. There are big crowds, queues for the portable toilets, and you’ll be a long way from your car. There’s often no respite from the full sun and it’s a long day.

Not my thing but if you want to go then go. Baby could wear ear defenders. We’ve used them for fireworks at a similar age and he slept right through. It’s presumably outdoors and she’ll be in the pram/carrier not being handed round to strangers so I wouldn’t worry about germs.

I wouldn't want to take a baby. I need ear protection at an air show. It's also not the most comfortable of places being out in tge sun or rain, questionable toilets etc. If you were at RIAT you could book the family enclosure to make it more comfortable but this must be a smaller airshow as RIAT was in July.

I wouldn’t take a baby to an air show without ear defenders. It’s also likely to be quite hot and sunny this weekend and you’ll be unlikely to find much shade. It seems unfair to her and also unfair to your son. A new baby is a big change and some quality time that’s baby free would be good for him.

I've never felt an airshow was loud, the planes are too far away?

I'd probably still let DH and DS go and have some 121 time though.

missrabbit1990 · 21/08/2025 17:35

let them go together and have some father son time, it’ll just be stressful with a baby!

I was at Blackpool air show earlier this month and there were a lot of children including babies. Many of the youngest had ear defenders. Most of the planes were fine but the Tornado was feel it in your bones loud!

Climbingrosexx · 21/08/2025 18:01

As others have said ear defenders are a must if you do go, Air shows are very loud, I have done a fair few
