Bleeding from bottom - what might this be?

DS is 3.8 and pretty much trained - we had a couple of pooey pants at the weekend but back to pooing in the loo now. But sometimes I find that when I am wiping his bum there is a little bit of blood.
He is not constipated AFAIK, eats fruit and veg, drinks water. And I have looked at his bottom after a bath and his ring is a bit red but no actual sign of piles (do preschoolers even get piles?)
Has anyone had anything similar happen?

anal fissure? small crack in the bottom, can happen if been a bit constipated and had to strain to poo...

Perhaps a little anal fissure? A little bit like a tiny cut but had healed over when you checked. Perhaps he was a tiny bit constipated at the weekend when he had a couple of small accidents. Can be caused by straining afaik.

Children can get piles but I think it is fairly unusual unless they have issues with constipation.

(I didn't copy Lulu, honestly)

Is the poo quite hard do you know? My DS is only 9 months but I found a bit of blood in poo so took him dr. They gave me sapositries(don't know how to spell that but YKWIM) to help soften any blockages. I gave him 4 over 2 days and then he was fine.

great minds !

is your little one having any medication at the moment,
DS2 had alot of blood in his poo after taking antibiotics, nappy full of blood made me panic and when we went to the hospital they weren't surprised at all just told us to stop them immediately and the intestine healed itself in about 6 days.

He's not on meds and his poos don't seem to be particularly hard. I wondered if he had scratched himself (he likes to fiddle about in his pants) but maybe he did just strain once too hard and it's taking its time to heal.

I am a bit prone to it myself (probably piles but I can't, erm, see in my own case). He is quite well in other respects so I suppose I should just let it get better on its own.

it was just a thought... Hope it clears up itself soon

It is possible to graze the delicate skin of the anus by wiping a bit too firmly with loo roll!

madamez · 30/05/2008 14:42

Poor little beast I bet it's the excessive use of loo roll as he wriggles a lot when being wiped. Ho hum, better stock up on Kandoos....
Thanks for all the advice anyway.
