Just looking for some advice. My 17 year son's birthday yesterday. My nephew (nearly 40) who up until now has always give him a card with a £10, yesterday he had a joke card saying " wanted to get you something but times are hard" no money it in. Ok I understand if money is tight as it is for all of us. But at the moment hes on holidays in a 5 star hotel in Egypt. But I'll still be expected to buy his daughter presents. And its always alot more than £10. Should I continue this as im a single working mum and now will have my sons car insurance and tax to pay for aswell as mine. When I mentioned this to his father I was just told your lucky he got a card. And he has gone on holidays so money is tight. But I wouldn't do that.

How old are his kids? I think once a child is over 18 it’s time to stop.

And he's bought your son presents until 17? So you've got 12 more years of presents left to buy. You don't need to spend lots though.

At 17 I don't think it's unreasonable to stop giving presents or cash, there has to be a cut off somewhere.

You're choosing to spend more on his 5 year old there's no reason you need to spend a fortune on her at that age and to be honest he's spent 17 years giving your child presents so it would come across as very petty to stop now just because he's no longer giving your son anything.

My five year old nephew was delighted with a £5. He was saving up for new trainers.
