Floor bed for baby?

I’m pretty sure I’ve decided to go straight to a single size floor bed when my baby is ready to move to his room instead of putting him in a cot in there. The room is baby proof, the wardrobe is built in and the shelving unit is attached to the wall. There are no blinds there, and when we’ve set up the monitor and nightlights we’ll secure the cables to the wall with a cover so they aren’t a risk. I’m not sure whether there will be any sockets visible but we won’t use covers because I think for UK plugs it’s less safe. Has anyone else put their baby in a floor bed instead of a cot and how was it? Anything I’ve missed?

Yes it's all fine, just try to keep the room free from anything not safe as you're doing, and ideally put a stair gate on the door frame and leave it open. We did the same and it's much easier than a cot for settling them if they struggle.

I read that some people find that once babies start crawling/walking, they might find that "freedom" disruptive. I can't remember the details but we decided against this idea.

My baby loves his crib. And he would 100% be toddling around instead of going to sleep if he had that freedom, he's very active and started walking at 10 months.

But if your plan is to co-sleep then a floor bed is best.

We used a cot originally but soon got over that and moved to a floor bed within a couple of months. I would say it's worth weighing up the pros and cons of a floor bed with rails/without as you can't add a bed guard until 18 months. Our LO does often fall out onto the cot mattress beside his floor bed but it never wakes him. It's more that I want to put him back in bed when he eventually makes his way onto the carpet. But when he wakes up he will just sit up and cry and wait for us on his bed, he doesnt get up and mess about yet (14 months). It's much easier for us than the repeated failed cot Transfers in the early days.

But if they can fall out surely it's not a floor bed?
I did a floor bed for DD which was literally just a mattress on the floor, worked well for her but she was a bit older. Currently pondering what to do for ds as he is so active he might be better off for a bit of containment!
