Hello mums I’ve recently become a single mum and I’m planning to go do my food shop and I just wanted to know if any of the Tescos trolleys are car seat compatible

Compatible how? I've seen babies in car seats in the body of a trolley which always seemed mad to me. You should be able to find one with a baby seat on it. Otherwise a sling is very handy.

MeringueOutang · 13/08/2025 15:51

No but some trolleys have a specific baby seat (rather than a child seat) that you can put your baby in. Usually next to a child seat. When I had a 6 week old and a 2 year old by myself that's what I did, because when they're little they shouldn't be in the car seats for long enough for me to drive to the shop and do my shopping and get home again.

as in I know they have baby seats but I wasn’t sure if they have anything on the top of trolleys where you can safely sit the car seat

No, it would he way too top heavy!

Gemgrey04 · 13/08/2025 15:57

Have you used one and how safe would you recommend it to be ?

I only see actual car seats in the main trolley compartment.
Considering how easily the weight of a young child can tip a trolley over by standing on a side of it , a car seat plus baby weight wouldn’t be safe either.

Yes, as per my earlier post.

Some do but in reality it’s very impractical!

I would either use one with the lay down seat provided or if at all possible now I would do an online shop for the bulk so I could just nip in with the pram and a basket if any top ups needed.

Click and collect slots are usually cheaper than a delivery slot if you want to save a little money.

Ollybob · 13/08/2025 16:01

It'd probably be too long to keep baby in the car seat for the drive and shop unless you're speedy but where's the fun in that? (I love shopping btw)
Can you do online shopping? Maybe just for the bulky/essential bits and use the pram for shopping small bits/top ups?
When did was little I used to do more smaller shops and had a decent sized pram so could walk to the shops and pop it underneath, didn't matter if she fell asleep on the way 😂.

13SixWeetabix · 13/08/2025 16:03

No, the trollies are not designed with car seats in mind. In reality, I did once put the seat in one of the big trollies (def don't do this with the little trollies, it would be too top heavy), but it wasn't great. I also used the lay down seat (blanket first) once or twice. But the best way outside of getting your shopping delivered is to use a sling. I had a moby wrap type one. Put it on and tie it before you leave the house, then transfer babe from seat to sling when you get there.

MarioLink · 13/08/2025 16:10

Most supermarkets have a small number of trolleys by the parent and child spaces that you can strap a baby car seat to. You have to be on the tall side to see over it though! The other option is taking a blanket and using the trolleys with the attached reclined baby seats. Or order your big shop online and use the pram for small shops and put items in the basket bit underneath.

TheNightingalesStarling · 13/08/2025 16:51

Personally, I did find the best solution was baby in a soft carrier on your front as many do just want to be held.

Gotalottawishwash · 13/08/2025 19:54

Just put the baby in a sling/carrier while you shop

TY78910 · 13/08/2025 20:16

Sainsbury’s do, not sure about Tesco as I don’t have one local. It’s great actually, just slots in and you fasten with seatbelts

Gemgrey04 · 13/08/2025 23:31

I did some research and it said Tescos do but I suppose it depends on the shop I’ll have to pop up before and have a look

It completely depends on the store, but I've never been in a UK tescos (unless it was a Tesco Extra) which didn't have car seat trolleys or those baby ones with the blue moulded plastic reclined seat.

Personally I find the car seat trolleys put the car seat so high that I can't see where I'm going - totally nuts design IMO. I'm quite tall for a woman as well but you'd have to be about 6 foot to see over it!

I used to just get one of the shallow trolleys and put the car seat in and the shopping around them.

SJM1988 · 14/08/2025 12:50

Our tesco does. I've used them. They have a strap to attached over the car seat. It works fine but I preferred taking baby out and putting into the baby seat ones instead. Its less bulky and you can see baby easier and where you are going easier.

ThatGreenFawn · 14/08/2025 14:17

Tesco used to do them (my dc are teens now) . I used them once, but it was so difficult to use. I wasn't able to see over the trolley/car seat and it was tricky to lift on and off. I never bothered after the first time.
