I don't use cotton bottoms but have used prefolds very very happily for the last 4 years.
I find them quick to assemble, easy to wash and dry.
anything else?

baby due in 2 weeks. just getting a bit anxious now about it. Are fleece liners required/usefulo? Also do you ise disposables at night?

I use them and love them, I use them day and night. They have to be done up properly or they leak Tink's dad tends to not pull the wrap tight enough around her legs.

They've stopped making them now though, I was going to get some of their training pants.

We don't use fleece liners we use paper liners and flush them with the poo into the toilet. We have found that has worked well for us. We get them on a big roll from the nappylady.co.uk

We used disposables for the first 3-4 days until the meconium had finished. (poo turned from marmite to chicken korma)

we found that washable nappies worked well when we were getting up at night to feed we changed nappy at each feed however once they slept for longer we found that we had leaks at night more often and at about 6-7 months we started using naturebaby nappies at night. However, with hindsight and more knowledge, I would probably have bought a thicker shaped nappy for overnight.

If you are using them from the start you will probably take it all in your stride.. I personally feel it is harder to start using them if you have been used to disposables.

Good luck not long now.. I am really envious of the journey you are about to make.. it is a very special time.

I luv prefolds - have been using them since my DS was 7 months old, so wish I had started sooner.

Agree with Jingleyjen - easy to use, wash & dry. Very hardwearing too.

I use Junior Joy prefolds with Thirsties wraps. I didnt get on with Cotton Bottoms wrap cos it leaked at the legs (no leg gussets to contain leaks). It may be a case of trying out a few different wraps until you find one to suit.

For nightime I boost the prefold with a face flannel & use a wool wrap - never had a leak.

They recommend securing prefold with a nappi nippa on young babies, in order to contain explosive breast poo - useful video here:

Forgot to add - I use fleece liners, they keep babies bottom incredibly dry. There again my DS is on solds so I dont have the problem on runny poo.

If you go to www.nappylady.co.uk - she explains all the different liners really well under the advice section.

Tip - if you go for fleece liners, buy half a metre of anti-pil from your haberdashery & cut to size.

All the best.

We have used cotton bottoms since DD was about 1 month old. (It was just asking too much to use them in the first few weeks.) I bought a birth to potty pack at super knock down price as they were changing all the sizes. They have been mostly fine, but I think if I had to choose now, I would go for a shaped nappy, as the prefolds are a bit fiddly to assemble and get onto a wriggly baby. Also the cotton bottoms wraps are not the best, as there is not as much velcro on them as other brands, so more difficult to secure them. However, very easy to wash and dry them.

Buy whatever real nappies you decide on now. If they are sat in the corner of the nursery, then you will feel obliged to use them. If you don't have them in the house, you will find it much harder to find the motivation to use them.

I would recommend TotsBots liners (disposable and/or reuseable fleece) as they are smaller and fit into the nappy much better than Cotton Bottoms, or other similar sized liners. Don't flush the disposable liners as they will block your drains, even if they say they won't! (No use buying real nappies to save money if you have to spend £100+ on drain doctor!) Have only just discovered fleece liners. Fantastic invention, would highly recommend.

I found they leaked a lot - sorry! I do however still use them for boosting nappies and for under the boys sheets to catch dribbles etc. They are very useful indeed.

I quite like the cotton bottoms wraps over my shaped nappies (tots bots and diddy diapers), they aren't my favourites though (I love motherease) as the fabric is quite thick and stiff.

Fleece liners are fab - make your own from an old blanket.
