Childminder doesn't want to use my lovely Bumgenius :-(

Hi

I've used Bumgenius on my daughter since she was 12 weeks old and I love them!

I have found a fantastic childminder and my DD loves her. We are currently having settling in sessions and on the last two occasions I have picked her up she has been soaked through to her clothes? CM said she changes her regularly and there are wet nappies in the wet bag, but I can't understand why she is soaking through, I don't have many leaks so why is she? In fact I think I've only ever had 2 or 3. I change her at least every two hours is that normal for Bumgenius?

I took her to CM today and she has said she doesn't want to use my BG and wants her to go in sposies She reckons BG only last for an hour and half max!!

What do I do, I got BG for the financial and eco side of things and now it looks like I've got to shell out for sposies as well!! Can I insist she uses them, but then I'm terrified she will give us notice to find another CM, she is really good and I'm happy with her. By the way she has only got one other mindee of a year old, so I'm sure she can find the time to change a nappy every two hours, or am I being unreasonable to expect this?

Noooo

She should be doing what you want

No discussion

I would - honest

Talk to her about working in partnership with parents

Make sure she is putting them on right

Of course she should change every 2 hrs or so - how old is your LO & does she sleep for longer than 2 hrs?

Sleepycat - She doesn't 'employ' the childminder, she contracts to use her service - the CM is Self-Employed.

You can employ a Nanny but not a C/Mer

Hi

LO is 9 months, she can sleep for 3 hours but I don't get leaks even when she is asleep that long!!

Hubby thinks we should give in and send her in sposies, but some weeks she will be there four days thats a lot of sposies!!

Maybe I could boost them, I've got some boosters but then it makes them bulkier and harder to get her trousers on, oh what do I do!!

Can you boost them more with folded terry square or booster pads? Not familiar with BG, so sorry if that's not possible. Also, you need to check that she is putting them on right. I find that people put disposibles on quite loosely, but cloth leaks if you don't have it nice and snug. With no cloth sticking out at all.

I did cancel a contract with a childminder because she said she would not use cloth (was before it had started, but after we had contracted iyswim). I didnt; realise I felt so strongly about it to be honest until she said she didn't want to use them.

S'OK

I agree with the sentiment tho' (as you can see by my answer)

PotPourri · 28/05/2008 22:21

Oh, too slow with post. What if you got some all in ones as a compromise....?

LynetteScavo · 28/05/2008 22:23

I agree make sure she is putting them on properly. I have only ever put my own DC's in disposables, but have ben quite happy to use reusables on other peoples children. One mum did say I changed her baby too much,(every 2 hours) (they were a sort of one layer terry with plastic pants). I didn't want the LO to have a wet nappy next to her skin for too long , but the mum wasn't worried - and the LO never had nappy rash.

What I'm trying to say is, the childminder should try to get to grips with the nappies of your choice.

girlywhirly · 29/05/2008 10:09

Perhaps some sort of friendly tutorial is in order to check the minder is putting the nappies on correctly, and invest in some super absorbent hemp or bamboo boosters? They are supposed to be slimmer than other types. Send nappies ready boosted so that minder will not need to fiddle with them except for putting them on. My guess is you will need extra boosters in the future anyway as DD gets older and wees more in quantity, you may find it better to fork out for them than disposables. Logically, with disposables, the bigger the nappy the more absorbent material in them, so it's not unreasonable to expect to rethink the amount of absorbent material in your pocket nappies.
