3 year old burnt mouth - help!

Entirely my fault. My nearly 4 year old was sitting at the table and I made a pot of tea and for some mental reason he put his mouth on the spout and sucked. It was so fast and unexpected. He screamed and spat out the boiling water and I made him slowly drink a glass of water, given him some calpol and he’s now on his second ice lolly while I write this post completely wracked with guilt. His mouth, tongue and lips look normal so far but I know burns take a while to show/blister. I know the advice is running water but he’s refusing to drink anymore water so I’m not sure what else to do. Do you think he needs to be seen by a doctor? Should I wait until tomorrow or is it an a&e job tonight? Don’t worry about criticism, I could not feel any worse than I already do.

Hey these things happen, kids do ridiculous things and he definitely won't do it again!

I personally would call 111, it can take a while to blister and it was quite literally boiling water he sucked up. NHS website says trip to hospital for all burns in under tens.

I was busy earlier this yr and microwaved a jacket potato. Forgot it was microwaved and ate a bit. My throat was so sore. I went to A and E, they looked in throat and advised I waited an hour there for swelling and it can still swell for 24 hrs. I was advised cold soft foods for 48 hrs. I would get him checked.

Don't give him any ice lollies where the sugar will stick to the blistering skin. Otherwise just keep an eye on his breathing.

Thank you. DH is taking him to a&e on 111’s advice but they did a video link call and are not too concerned from what they could see which is reassuring. However, they are reporting the incident to social services which I was expecting but still feels surprisingly devastating.
