Orthotropic Treatment?

crescen · 27/07/2025 20:47

My 6-year-old son is a mouth breather and I am worried he might have issues later on in life. His teeth is already overcrowded and needs intervention.

I want to pursue orthotropic treatment for him but I live in Camberley, Surrey and there are only orthodontists near me. Can anyone let me know about any orthotropic practitioners? As well as their personal experience if any- particularly cost and value for money.

Many thanks in advance.

This might be too far for you or not quite what you were looking for, but DD1 (4y) is a terrible mouth breather and has a strong overbite, and our dentist recommended the myobrace system at Toothbeary in Kingston. Shes not affiliated with them but said it might help to lessen the orthodontic work needed later in her teens. We havent been ourselves yet as i have been on mat leave with DD2, so finances then settling back into work etc. But its on my list to sort out from Sept. Anyway, might help narrow down some googling for you.

Any functional dentist can use devises to correct mouth “posture”

my oldest had 2 separate devices (as we changed practitioner ) and totally corrected his bite (although to be honest what also helped with the mouth breathing was the tonsils removal ). There first device was brutal (palate extender) and expanded upper jaw but the second one (carrier motion was a bit easier). His teeth and overall bite are just absolutely perfect now even the orthodontist cannot believe it

my youngest had the First Invisalign when he was 9 - they’re pretty strong and can correct the bite

Also @crescen if you have a look here https://www.orthosmile.co.uk/treatments/orthodontics/child-orthodontics

if you read at the “functional appliances” section that’s what you need, the devices do actually correct the bite and can treat some serious cases

we went to that particular clinic, to dr Hejaz, he’s absolutely fantastic and an absolute perfectionist and my kid was as super complex case . Other orthodontist needed us to remove teeth but Dr Hejaz did his magic without removing anything . I’m forever grateful to him!

it’s worth booking a consultation (I think it’s free)

also fyi they’re much cheaper than others I went to and they have finance options too!

Thank you so much for this information. I wasn't aware about myobraces. Just googled and found another one closer to me- Myokids Dental in Weybridge Surrey. This looks so much like the Orthotropic philosophy with a focus on correct tongue posture. Wishing all the best for your little one ❤️❤️

From what I found, there aren’t many orthotropic specialists around, especially outside of London. Some parents end up going to clinics a bit farther out or even doing part of the treatment remotely. Might be worth calling a few places to ask if they offer early guidance or video consults.

I am willing to travel to London if need be, but I can't find any orthotropic practitioners even in London. Apparently Dr Mew's been struck off the register so not sure if he is offering any service at the moment. The only ones that come up on google are based in USA. Are you aware of any other practitioners in London?

@crescen by “orthotropic” how do you mean ?

you mean facial exercises or myobrace?

none of these will bring guaranteed results like a functional appliances, also be aware for the appliances to work you do need to do this by 10, perhaps 11yo max so you don’t want to lose precious time
