Has anyone on here recently applied for a 1st password for son or daughter ?

Please can you tell me where I can find the birth certificate number ? My son's are 7 and 1 year old.

All I can see is a BBR number ( top right corner) and a system number ( bottom left corner)

Is this helpful?
Although you send thr birth certificate anyway so not sure it matters too much. Bottom left number seems most useful

But the number is too long according to the application. I removed the 1st number and it works so not sure what to do

That's strange. How many digits is it?

It's very strange. The application for my 7 year old son I was asked for the birth certificate number. I just typed in the system number minus the first number.

For my 1-year-old's application, no certificate number was needed.

Now I have another problem. I need someone to confirm their identity; however, I don't know anyone on the list of professions, so what do I do now?

I find it ridiculous the fact that I've lived in the UK all my life, my sons were born here, and we're being asked so many questions. Fair enough, they want my passport number and are asking for me to send the birth certificates in only once identity is confirmed. Surely birth certificates and my passport number is enough!

Here is what it says

It's not only those professions. You can use someone of 'good standing in the community'. Any neighbours, friends, colleagues that are nurses, in the police, small business owner e.g. hairdresser, shop owner, etc

They are confirming they have known you for 2 years and can identity the children

KassandraOfSparta · 26/07/2025 20:52

Those are EXAMPLES of the sorts of professions. It is not a "you must get someone on this list".

Anyone who works for the Council would count. People who are a person of standing in the community - the woman who runs the local food bank, a minister, people who run community groups, pub landlords. And also they are verifying that they know you, not your child. So people who are friends of your parents who knew you growing up etc.

@iphammer - could you tell us the jobs that your friends and their spouses do and we can guide you as to whether they are likely to be accepted.

I work in education admin. Not on the list but I’ve done loads of passports and all gone through successfully

I only really know and speak to my neighbours; however, they are retired and don't have a passport. My partner has a friend who works for the NHS however she doesn't have a British passport ( she is polish ) so she won't qualify.

Or people her parents were friends with, or friends of siblings.

Every so often there are threads like this with people who claim they just don't know anyone, ever.

RocketLollyPolly · 26/07/2025 23:07

Who else do you - or your partner if you have done - know?

Who are your friends? School parents? Work colleagues?

Who do you know through hobbies or community groups?

You don’t have to be best friends with them. If a mum I know from school pick up and parties asked me I’d do it without hesitation.

mindutopia · 27/07/2025 10:51

Do you know anyone who is self employed? Any company director can do it, so anyone registered on companies house as a director. This will be most small businesses. So it could even be the partner of someone who is self-employed as many of them are co-directors for tax purposes even if they don’t work in the business at all. Your dc must have friends at school whose parents would fit the bill.
