Shoes for 4yo with wider feet

Really struggling with shoes for DS (not helped by the fact heโ€™s suddenly very opinionated on what he wears ๐Ÿซ ๐Ÿ˜‚).

He is usually needs something wide fitting or something that doesnโ€™t taper off too much at the toe.

Travelled an hour to our nearest city to get some decent shoe shops today and out of 6 shops there were TWO styles available in his size ๐Ÿ™„ both of which he said were uncomfy ๐Ÿ™„

Can anyone recommend any specific styles or brands that work for their kids?

Have ypu tried tikki shoes? They are barefoot shoes, wide enough but you need to be ready to pounce in the sales so probably no good to you right now!

Startrite

Froddo. I rarely buy anything else for my 4 year old who has very wide feet.

Look for barefoot shoes. They generally all have wide toeboxes.

If you still need sandals (like trekking sandals) then Keen Seacamps are fab

Startrite or Froddo in my experience. Not cheap though!

Thank you all ๐Ÿ˜Š Iโ€™ll have a look.

Hes had a few Startrite ones over the years which have worked well but every time we go to our local stockist he tells me none look nice ๐Ÿซ

I would look at barefoot shoes, that support the normal shape of the foot. Ours are Froddo, BGreater and RAK

@supercalifragilistic123 To be fair, theyโ€™re not much different to the โ€œfashion trainersโ€ these days! DS picked up one pair that he did like the other day in a sports shop and they were ยฃ77 for synthetic shoes that clearly werenโ€™t well made.
Im happy to spend on decent footwear ๐Ÿ˜Š

@BuffaloCauliflower I havenโ€™t heard of RAK - Iโ€™ll have a look thank you! Now do you find BGreater? They have a couple that DS likes the look of but all are out of stock in his size currently!

You can get wide fit shoes in Clarkโ€™s or Next but might be better to order for collection/delivery rather than hoping to find the right ones in stock on the day.

FanMeNowPatrick · 22/07/2025 09:33

Ds lived in Clarks ones and pretty much the same style of shoe for years as school said no trainer lookalikes. He is an H width, it was problematic from a sourcing point of view hence why we ended up back at Clarks each time.

Iโ€™ve got v wide feet as have my kids, especially one. I was v clear with them right from the start that while we will search around plenty and find as many great options as we can, theyโ€™re always going to have far less choice and theyโ€™d better get used to it like I have. Obviously i said it a lot nicer than that, and at appropriate moments. But itโ€™s not a terrible thing to get them to be realistic. Plus, the more choice they want, the more notice I needed that theyโ€™re growing out of shoes, as teens who are prone to say itโ€™s fine for weeks and suddenly โ€œoh my shoes have diedโ€. Plenty of notice means we can scour the internet and order multiple pairs and have a giant trying on fest. They know we canโ€™t just go to the shop and pick something up.
