Hedrin on 19 month old!

I work in a school and I’ve finished for summer with a nice dose of head lice. I’ve worked with children for 15 years and never caught them so was completely thrown.

i also have a 19 month old who is very cuddly and every morning lays his head on mine so I assume he’s caught them from me. He’s very fair and I can’t see anything other than little black dots on his scalp which I read is a sign of infestation.

the pharmacy has prescribed us Hedrin and has said we can use it on my 19 month old however I feel like leaving it on his head for 8 hours is going to be a nightmare. I feel it’s inevitable he’ll touch is his head and then his face, eyes or mouth. Even over night I feel like it won’t work well.

anyone got any tips or advice please!

I'd not be very comfortable leaving nit treatment on a 19 month old's hair for 8 hours.

There are loads of alternative treatments for you and him.

A nitty gritty comb and lots of conditioner is actually very effective and doesn't use any chemicals. It takes a bit of time though as you need to regularly comb through for a week or more.

I used to use Full Marks solution and a nitty gritty comb. You only need to do that a couple of times and don't leave any solution on.

How much hair does your child actually have? Usually it's still fairly thin at that age. 1 of mine was practically bald until she was 2, but obviously all children are different.

yeah I’m not too happy about it either and was surprised that’s what the pharmacist prescribed.

what conditioner should I use on him? Any recommendations?

You can use any really. You'll use a lot so I just used a fairly cheap tea tree one. The lice supposedly don't like tea tree.

I used to buy the cheapest available conditioner as you need quite a lot and will be fine combing every 2-3 days for a couple of weeks at least.

Hedrin do one that says 5 mins, though used to say 15 mins. Could you use that?

Conditioner and nitty gritty comb. Just cheap one, I tend to get the Tesco one or whatever they have at the petrol station in an emergency. I’ve never used anything else. And my dd was friends with the nitty kid all through primary. 😬
