Good early morning!

I am taking my 2 year old swimming for the first time this week, but don’t know what we need!
i know she needs a costume/swim nappy but what else shall i take for her in the pool?
She’s a confident fidget monkey and i know she won’t want to be held all the time- what type of aid is best? Arm bands, vests?

I’m so lost but so excited to get her in the pool!!

Thanks in advance 🤍

I'd try a vest, more comfy than arm bands. Id also be tempted to take a small ball or something for her to hold, play with even a bath toy would be good.

You don’t really need anything other than a swim nappy and swimsuit (check pool regulations about whether they need a double nappy or just a disposable). If the pool is cool you might need a wetsuit type thing but we go to a warm leisure centre one so don’t need one. Depending on where you are swimming they might already have some pool noodles or toys like a watering can. Generally with toddlers you just need to hold them in the water. Swim aids are not really recommended at this age.

Snacks after is the most important thing. They get hungry swimming and keeps them happy while you get dressed.

Take a snack for after. Undress her and wrap her in a poncho towel. Pop her on the bench with a snack and you can get dressed. Then you can dress her. It’s what I always did.

I always dried and dressed my little ones first then gave them a snack - otherwise mine would wee everywhere and then we'd need a spare towel...which we wouldn't have 😂

Swim nappies are not for containing wee!

We take a Zoggs neoprene floating fish ball toy thing when we go (other brands are available).
Beyond that, never used floatation devices. Just held them, or sat them in the shallow bit.
