Grandparent pram

I might be looking for a unicorn, but I want to get my parents a second hand pram for when I go back to work and they have the baby, he’ll be 9 months old.

I’d like it to be not hugely expensive, easy folding and not too bulky, can go off road (ish, they go to a bird sanctuary sometimes but there are paths) and maybe parent facing. I think maybe a second hand M&P Ocarro would work, but any other suggestions?

I thought you were asking for something like this -

Grandparent pram

M&P Flip. Bit lighter than ocarro and can be ‘parent’ facing whilst he is little. Fab to pick up 2nd hand or direct from M&P pre-owned

At 9 months I’d just get a forward facing buggy, they like to see the world at that age. A basic recline is useful but not essential. If it folds small it will be good for travel too

I'd get a folding travel style buggy, it will be forward facing but at that age it shouldn't be a problem. I'd recommend looking for one with a lie flat function though, better for them during naps.

Make sure it’s light. DS bought us one that we couldn’t lift to put in the boot of our car.

RainbowsDinos889 · 16/07/2025 01:51

At that age, they'll scream their head off in a parent facing pram 😂 so you can scratch that requirement off the list.

What's your budget? We have the yoyo and it's amazing, super super light.

Ocarro is huge and very heavy. I have one.

Find a good car boot sale (one that isn’t just market traders), and just check out the buggies. I would aim to spend less than a tenner. For a second buggy , I really wouldn’t worry about brand. If it seems reasonably sturdy, and is fairly easy to push it’ll do.

This is what I would do and what we have done in the past when iv bought one to go only holiday with. Although it depends how often they are looking after him if they have got him all week and you've only got him on weekends id give them the good pram and get yourself a second hand one but obviously if its only a day a week id get them the cheap one

A baby jogger city mini

iggleoggle · 16/07/2025 07:00

Just look at Facebook marketplace close to the tkme for one and see what’s available.

MarioLink · 16/07/2025 11:31

Mine were very happy parenting facing till 2 years but if it's not your everyday pram you will massively increase the options if you take that off the list. If parent facing isn't needed then the BabyJogger would be my choice. Parent facing but not designed for off road is the Bugaboo Bee. It could handle our local bird sanctuary fine though.

JohnLapsleyParlabane · 16/07/2025 11:35

A second hand baby jogger or mountain buggy sounds like it would probably fit the bill. You probably don't want a stroller style we tried that with my in-laws and they found it very stressful on their wrists

shiningstar2 · 16/07/2025 11:40

Speaking as a grandparent here. Get something as light as possible and also easily foldable to get in car, on buses ext. For us grandad's back made anything heavy impossible to lift into the car. Anything complicated to fold up was beyond us 😂 We had lots of fun times with the right buggy type pram hope your parents have fun too. 💐

HoppingPavlova · 16/07/2025 11:45

I’d get something that is reversible. While some kids may be happy staring at granny/grandpa, many will make their unhappiness unknown at that age if they are not forward facing. Once they clue on they can see the whole world one way they are not happy if they can’t! Some are just earlier to clue onto this and some lag behind with putting two and two together, but when they do good luck with parent facing.

joie auto fold are great

You say that but my nearly two year old wants to face me. Anywhere fun and interesting she wants to walk, if we’re using the pram to get to A-to-B she wants to face me for the Mummy Entertainment Hour (I feel like I missed my Butlins Redcoat calling…)

breakdown98765 · 16/07/2025 12:20

Honestly I’d just have a look on FB market place. £1000 pushchairs being sold for £200.
