4 year old body image

My 4 year old DD today told me she wanted to take off her school dress because she thought it made her look fat.

I have zero body confidence but am really conscious about keeping it to myself and not
exposing her to body negativity.

When I asked her where she had heard someone saying that, she named one of her friends at school. My DD said that her friend was looking in the mirror saying that she thinks she (friend) looks fat.

I told DD 1st and foremost she is not fat she is beautiful and so is her friend, I also told her that all bodies come in different shapes and sizes which is ok. Secondly I told her that if she hears her friend saying anything like that again to tell her friend that she is not fat she is beautiful and if her friend is getting upset to get a teacher. I explained to my DD that we need to look after our friends.

The Mum of DD’s friend works at the same school and I also have her phone number thanks to a class WhatsApp group chat. Should I reach out and tell her what her daughter has been saying or should I talk to the girls’ class teacher (who is male) and let him address it?

Class teacher. Always the class teacher.

Definitely speak to the teacher.
My 4yo daughter came home upset about her height after comments from other pupils. I spoke to the teacher and they arranged to do a few more lessons on celebrating everyone's body and how everyone is different. They've been doing some lessons on keeping a health body too.
