Kids and snacks

My kids are ridiculously early risers. Like 5-5.30 every day 🤪 summer holidays are upon us and they're already eating my out of house and home every morning. They are always starving when they wake up, so they have peanut butter on toast and some fruit and a cup of milk around 6am. By 9am they're asking for a snack, and then it just continues until lunch time basically. They have yoghurt, more fruit, a cereal bar, mini cheddars. At the weekends, when we get our breakfast they'll have a bacon roll or scrambled egg. And still eat a big lunch! They're not so bad in the afternoon but I'm not sure how to stop this morning snacking?!

I do a second breaskfast! We have breakfast around 5:30/6am, either toast or bagels or eggs. Then we have second breakfast any time between 8am and 10am. Whenever they start crying they're hungry 🤣 normally cereal or fruit and yoghurt, or toast if they didn't have toast for 1st breakfast. Only way we can get through the day without a million snacks haha

The PP is right, they need a second breakfast. So at around 9am give them something like a bacon butty. Weetabix with sliced banana and whole milk, blueberry pancakes or cheese on toast. Omelette or scrambled eggs with cherry tomatoes and bacon is good too.

My 3 year old doesn’t get up until 7:30 but still squeezes in a second breakfast some days. Toast and fruit isn’t the most filling but I wouldn’t be wanting to cook much else at 5am either! Fling them in front of the telly with their toast and go back to bed for a bit then do something more filling for second breakfast.

No need to stop the snacking if it’s not impacting other meals, they are obviously hungry. Just make it good healthy snacks. Make up a tray of chopped fruits and veg every day that they can help themselves too. Mine also snacks on cheese, oatcakes, salami etc.

I already feel like I'm catering for hobbits 🤪 but glad second breakfast is a thing! Might just need to make it more structured. We definitely do go back to bed after getting their breakfast early doors. I often take a coffee back to bed, and read then nod off again for 40 mins until the hasselling for snacks starts!
