What time does your 10 year old go to bed at the weekend. Not necessarily asleep, but out of the living room and in their room, reading or watching TV etc.

OP posts:

Depends what’s going on. 9 usually but sometimes later if friends are here/we are there.

[forth child] <-- relevant

9.30-10pm every night (weekends and school nights). She goes to bed 9.30pm and is asleep by 10pm (often asleep by 9.35, but always by 10).

I remember our first child going up yo Guides at 10yo and considering how she would manage bedtimes when Guides finished at 9pm, so she wouldn't be in bed until 9.30pm. Her ususl bedtime was 8.30pm.

I realised early bedtimes matter less. It just means earlier mornings. Consistency matters a lot tho.

The notion that "parents need grown up time", used as a reason for littlies having early bedtimes, flies out of the window with teens and young adult children in the house. I love that our teens sit and watch TV with us in the evening.

Just seen the OPs name. Assuming that R used to be a T, our children are the same age. I know you (under a different username) from the Sept 2014 babies thread.

By 9:30pm usually. On occasion, she might stay up watching tv til 10pm when Dh and I go to bed. Mine is 12 btw, but I would say this was the same as when she was 10.

I would say this is similar for during the week, also in her room by 9:30, unless late getting home from an activity (gets home at 9pm 2 days a week) or up doing homework. No tv watching in the evenings during the week.

We don’t have tv or any screens in bedrooms, so once in her room it’s reading or drawing only.

The same time as in the week. 8:30/45. I don’t think he goes straight to sleep though as I often see his torch light shining through the door. He’s usually asleep by the time his brother goes in at 9:30. (If he’s not they chat for ages 🤣)

10/10:30 weekends/holidays, asleep by 11.
9:30 at all other times, asleep by 10.

My son is 10 (11 at the end of the month) and he goes to bed at 8ish (in bed for 8.15pm). Weekends he's possibly in bed by 8.30pm. He's up at 6am most days and has a busy day on Saturday with sports.

GivingUpFinally · 06/07/2025 16:46

We do 8.30/8.45 but is up at 6.30/6.45 every morning.

Pretty much this.

Bed at 10 and lights out at 11.
Weekdays bed at 9 and lights out at 10.

Weekmindedfool · 06/07/2025 18:59

930 at weekends/non school nights.
830 school nights.

Also it’s not all about them. It’s to give mummy and daddy some adult time😉

In bed asleep by 9 weeknights, weekends depends what’s going on and how tired they are but usually before 10

Ireallywantadoughnut36 · 06/07/2025 20:31

Ours isn't 10 till October so slightly younger, he goes up for a shower or to read at 8ish, in his room with the lights off between 8.30 and 9, he's normally fast asleep by 10 latest.
We do the same at weekends and during holidays, it occasionally will be later if we are out with people/have people over or sometimes over the long summer holidays it creeps a bit.
He always needs to be woken up, at 7.45 for school mornings and at 8.30ish for weekend clubs/sports/hobbies. Left alone he'll often sleep till 9.30am no matter when his bedtime is. He loves a lazy morning

Mine is slightly older at 11 almost 12 but my god he is a nightmare! During week he should be in room by 10 and asleep by 10.30 but he procrastinates so much! He’s always hated going to bed. We are a bit of a night owl family though and we don’t have to get up particularly early so it does work for us. I can only dream of a child settled in bed early!
