9 year old daughter-party theme?

Hi there,

My daughter is 9 next week and is having a party on 7th June. Don't know what theme to go for.

She's suggested a princess and make over party, but has just been to a make over and spa party...with all the same kids, so I don't want to copy that.

I could do a princess party but think that might be a tad childish now. I find this quite a difficult age really. She's having five girls to the party. We can't do a sleepover as my daughter went to one and we ended up collecting her at midnight as was "too hot and couldn't sleep"....disastrous. Hubby has now "banned" her from sleepovers till she's 10.

Has anyone got any ideas? What's worked for you?

It really is a tricky age. I have 2 dds, one will be 9 this year, one will be 10. Agree the princess party might be a bit young for them now.

Parties just seem so sophisticated now. For instance, dd2 (8) had a party the other week sailing at a boat club. DD2 (9) has invitations for a horse riding birthday party and an invitation for a tour bus party (we're in Oxford) followed by a tea in the covered market. God knows how much these things cost the parents.

There was a thread in the last few days about this. Have you a Pizza Express near you? DD2 had a pizza making party there for her 8th and it was a huge success.

how about a hawiann(sp) theme.
maybe put a pool up and lights in the garden.lot's of limbo dancing and non-alcoholic cocktail making.weather permitting

Bowling and swimming parties work well for that age if you don't want the party at home

big hit for friends dd was a secret diary party, all friends got a diary (just a hard covered note book) and heaps of crafty stuff to decorate it with, fake jewels, markers, etc. They then passed them around and wrote something nice about the owner on the first page for the first entry, the mum took heaps of photos and put them through a computer programme thingy and gave each child a print out to put in the diary. This was all done over a couple of hours with heaps of yummy food in between.

Hi,

Thanks for the replies.

I know that my daughter's best friend is having a swim party in a few weeks. We have bowling but it's a fair hike to get to it...maybe next year though as it's something different. Diary idea is really cute but the kids would stress me out and be all over my computer...these kids are so computer literate these days!

I'm going for the Hawaiian theme. I've just bought decorations for the front room/outside (weather permitting), they will all get leis (the flower necklaces)and hair decorations on arrival. Thinking about sarongs or something as well?

Should be good fun as they've never had this before...maybe they can all make their own cocktails. Only thing is a few years ago we had a bouncy castle and I served fizzy pop and some girls were sick...so I'm always a bit cautious now with drinks.

Guess I can always use still drinks..with lots of fruit to add to it.

I've also got an inflatable limbo thing, so that should be fun...there's loads of things to buy for this theme...got a bit carried away I think...hopefully I've stopped now!

Thanks again for the advice.
